Which Michelin Tires?

I'm in the market for a new set of tires for my wife's '02 LT Suburban (daily driver). I go back and forth between the LTX M/S and the Cross Terrain SUV. I have had the LTX M/S on a couple past trucks with good results, but have not had any experience with the Cross Terrains. The only downside I experienced with the LTX M/S was a bit of lack of traction on ice/snow (we do get some of that in MN!!). For this particular truck, I will be going with the stock size (265/70-16) in a p rated tire, as all my towing, off roading, etc is done with my truck.

Any opinions appreciated!!

I've had the LTX M/S and they are a great tire. I've never had the cross terrains, but I hear they wear a lot faster. Not sure about the traction.

Might want to check out Tire Rack. You could make a direct comparison between the capabilities of the two and there are tons of reviews.

I don't know if you are planning to run LT or P-rated tires but I don't think you can get the Cross-Terrain in an LT. I personally would not run P-rated on a truck especially if you ever tow. In towing applications, you are supposed to de-rate a P 10% if towing. I also prefer the firmer ride of the LT.

Regarding your choice, I have never run Cross-Terrains but I am on my third set of LTX M/S LT265/75R16 LRD and I got 80K out of the first two sets with some tread left. I think the compound gets real hard on the last of the tread because traction went to hell.

I second the Tirerack suggestion. THey are actually a customer of mine and they run a first rate outfit. They have TONS of reviews on their site. They also have their own test tract and every sales guy actually tests many of the tires they sell.

Check out the Nitto Terra-Grappler. Consumer Reports rated this a top notch tire and couldn't agree more. I used to be a BFG All-Terrain guy, but I'm sold on the Nitto's. I put them on my 07' Silverado NBS as well as my 03 Tahoe. Both are LT's due to towing a boat with each vehicle. A friend had them on his 03 Suburban which has 55K miles problem free miles.

Also, try www.discounttire.com or www.americastire.com for some price references.

I have the cross terrains on my truck and taheo, DO NOT GET THESE IN 245/70/16's, but 265/65/16's are Ok, the 265's are on my tahoe and are just fine for around town, even drove from northern va to alabama, very quiet tires, but the 245's are terrible on my silverado, extraordinarily rough and noisy, gotten 5 nails in them SIDEWAYS, not even up and down. They are put together so badly that they had to put weights on nearly half the diameter of the rim to balance the wheel out. I think i might have gotten a bad batch or something, but i guess that's what i get from buying from costco.

I've had both and couldn't really see any difference cept that the Crossterrains costs more. According to Michelin the Crossterrains should last longer as the UTQG rating of 700 vs 500 for the LTX M/S. Always been a Michelin fan. If only they didn't cost so dam much.

the ltx m/s will definitely last longer

LTX M/S I have them on my tahoe 02 LT and they are GOOD went out of town (ROAD TRIP) twice quiet smooth ride just make sure you get them rotated every 6-8000 miles or every 2nd oil change should get good life out of them.
