My son just bought this 2003 Chevy Silverado ext cab.It has the Non bose single cd HU.He has a amp and a sub box.He also has this little box to hook into the rear speaker wires that switches the rear speaker wires to rca to his amp. Will this work?Or does he need a special adapter that hooks into the wiring at the radio?

Help!

Thanks

It will work fine. Just do as you say, connect the RCA input adapter to one or both (if it is two channel) rear speakers, connect that to the amp, and the amp to the sub. You'll need to run a power cable from the battery to the amp (size depends on the amp rating) and you'll need a wire from the head's accessory power input to the amp for a turn on signal.

Keep the gain setting on the amp down because it will easily overpower your stock system and then all you'll hear is that thump, thump, thump coming down the road.

Yup.

Sounds like your son has everything he needs except wires and the labor. That little box you're talking about is a LOC (Line Output Converter). It's a really easy install, other than taking out and putting back in all the interior pieces.

Oh, and here's a tip...There are only 4 nuts and 1 bolt (all 18mm if memory serves) holding the back seat in that truck...And there's more than enough room behind it to install that amp with tons of room for it to breathe. I put two pretty good sized ones back there in my '02 and never had a problem.
