Outside Mirror Swap On 07 Silverado Nbs?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have the 07 Silverado NBS 1LT with the regular heated mirrors. I want to upgrade to the LTZ/2LT mirrors with the turn signals and electronic fold in option. Has anyone done this or know if it can be done? Some people say all you need is a new switch module to replace the 1LT switch? Thanks for any info...

I'm also interested in knowing, but it must involve replacing the mirrors also. If you look at them closely, they are different mirror assemblies. I'd think the easier solution we can hope for is adding a switch and changing the mirrors, hoping the wiring internal to the cab is already there...

You need two new mirrors and a new drivers side window switch,

you will also have to get them programed at the dealer.

Heres a bulletin on this that might be helpful......

Document ID# 2001083

Subject: Swapping Outside Rearview Mirrors RPOs DL8 / DL3 / DPN - keywords body camper change door folding out power rear side #PIT4417A - (07/31/2007)

Models: 2007-2008 Chevrolet Silverado

2007-2008 GMC Sierra

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some owners may request to have a different style mirror installed on their vehicle or request a different mirror before they purchase the vehicle. The new electrical architecture for the Silverado and Sierra has made swapping of the mirrors a more involved procedure than with previous models.

Recommendation/Instructions:

When swapping mirrors on a vehicle, the first thing that needs to be known is if the vehicle is equipped with door modules or not. The easiest way to determine if the vehicle has door modules is to use the Tech 2 and try to communicate with the "Drivers Door Switch" and "Passenger Door Switch". If the Tech 2 can communicate with these modules then the vehicle is equipped with door modules. If the Tech 2 cannot communicate with the door switches then the vehicle does not have door modules and the wiring between the driver and passenger mirrors is hard wired. The information below will be divided into two different areas: 1. Swapping mirrors on a vehicle equipped with Door Modules, and 2. Swapping mirrors on a vehicle NOT equipped with Door Modules.

Swapping mirrors on a vehicle equipped with Door Modules

The information in this section covers three different mirrors to swap on vehicles equipped with door modules: Base Power (DL8), Power Folding (DL3) and Camper (DPN). Before any parts are installed new door module calibrations must be obtained from Techline Customer Support. Advise the Techline Consultant that the vehicle is getting different mirrors, provide the RPO of the mirrors being installed, and request a new calibration for both door modules. Once you have the calibrations, then the mirror swap can be completed. Replace the drivers door switch with correct part number for the mirrors being installed from the chart below, programmed both door switches with the new calibrations from Techline and install the new mirrors.

Mirrors Driver Door Switch

DL3 15906881 4-power windows

DPN or DL8 15906880 4-power windows

One additional note to remember when swapping from DL3 to DPN or DL8. If the vehicle is equipped with memory RPO AN3, only the DL3 mirrors have memory recall. So, if the DL3 mirrors are replaced with DPN or DL8 mirrors the curb view assist and memory mirror features will be lost.

Swapping mirrors on a vehicle NOT equipped with Door Modules

This information only covers two different mirrors to swap on vehicles NOT equipped with door modules: Base Power Mirror (DL8) and Camper (DPN).

These two mirrors can be swapped without any additional hardware changes. The only thing to be aware of is that some vehicles equipped with DL8 mirrors may not have the turn signal wiring, due to the DL8 mirror is not equipped with a turn signal indicator. If the DPN mirrors are installed the turn signal indicator may be inoperative unless the turn signal wiring is installed.

Notie: The Power Folding Mirrors (DL3) are not available and can not be installed on a vehicle not equipped with Door Modules.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

Wow thanks for the info..one question..is this switch the actual module or just a switch? If it is just the switch can the module be purchased?

Well I will be able to tell you all the actuals on this by monday. I just bought escalade mirrors and am having them painted right now along with some other small items. You for sure will need the switch if you want the power fold to work. The door modules are pretty standard on most of the vehicles unless you got a mega strippy. I have a lt1 w/ California pkg and mine has everything except the switch and obviously the mirrors had to be bought. I will do a write up when I am done.

With a little searching you'll find that many persons on this site have been able to complete mirror swaps for the GMT900's. By simply swapping mirrors you can gain the signals but not the folding feature. The folding feature does appear possible but requires the correct door modules/switches and programming from the dealer.

i swapped from DL8 to DL3 mirrors. the functions i retained are power adjust, heated, integrated turn signals. no power folding functionality as i don't have door modules. i'll quote my post from yesterday when i installed them:

thanks for all the info everyone  . i found a set of DL3 mirrors from an ebay seller for $200 shipped. my girlfriend decided she wanted to get them for me for my birthday (she's a keeper). finally found time to install them today even though it's 19ºF out, 10º with wind chill. install went fine, i took my time and it took about 2 hours.

i was able to install the mirrors without fully removing the door panel.

didn't really matter though as i ended up removing the entire door panel so i could get it to seat properly for reinstallation.

here they are installed:

nice little inexpensive upgrade. i'm very happy with them.

HI

I just bought from ebay a set of DL3 mirrors. After installed this mirrors you were able to fold them manually like the DL8.

Thanks
