Jeep Lifetime Powertrain Warranty

I haven't had the time to read the small print, but I saw this on tv last night.

I think that goes for every car manufacturer. Except Toyota. We haven't had enough bash Toyota sessions in the last 24 hours.

 

I am waiting for the first 10 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Then I will be impressed. I do find the idea of a never ending powertrain warranty intrigueing though. Imagine 30 years from now taking your car in for a problem and having it fixed under warranty.

Undeniable. Lots of people buy these vehicles. In order to take advantage of this good deal, they must keep their vehicle a long time, meaning they don't buy another new vehicle three years later... The reality I think is people will buy the new vehicle any ways the powertrain warranty is basicallly lost and because it is non transferrable manufacturer doesn't have any more claims than any other manufacturer would at that point. They gain the sell and likely will not have any more warranty claims than any other car company to boot. Win win for Chrysler Dodge Jeep group.

If I read this (^) right, I think I understand what you are saying and it makes sense. But wanna know something cool, I though about basically the same thing a few years ago. I told people this and they thought I was crazy.

 

The difference was in my plan the warranty was transferable, but it was something where you would take your car and have to have it inspected before we renewed the warranty, the same way it was here. But to renew the warranty you had to pay for the TIME it took to inspect it. Say I don't know 3-4 hundred dollars. Few people would want to keep the warranty, but we got the initial sale, and nobody would find out about the fact that we were overcharging for inspection until 5 years later when it was time to renew. So we would have 5 years of increased sales. I think that makes up for the loss we would incur with the dropped warranty.

you have to get the car inspected every 5yrs, and get fluids changed at dealers

i think its crazy... they might boost sales now with it, but what incentive will people have to buy a new one in 5 years... unless they keep the lifetime warranty

when i was looking at dodge's before i got my chevy truck ... the warrenty was one thing i was hitting them with 100 of questions on ... you have to have it inspected every 5 years by them, and keep a full maint record on it .. (oil changes, belts, hoses etc) ... if there are any variances on that record, there goes your warrenty less what ever fails is actually mech failure, and not something that could be linked to the lack of upkeep... a few motor mods ... equals a good chance that it will not pass the inspection ... and there goes the warrenty ...

 

for a basic work truck, its a good deal ... since those rarely get modified much, and upkeep is done to them (in a fleet) ... but for a private person, meh ... it sounds good up front .. but after 8 or 9 years ... it isn't as much of a good idea .. if you do the upkeep and such it should still be going 10+ years later ....

 

most people that don't maintain their car or truck, (the ones the warrenties are directed at) .. normally get rid of it before that warrenty would come into play anyways ...

 

it covers the motor, tranny, rearend ... but not all the other peices hooked up to it .. (a/c not covered, etc etc... )

No you don't. You can get your maintenance done anywhere. But you do get a free inspection at 5 years.

GM is the same way. To keep that 100K warranty, you have to keep your maintenance log book up to date.

From what it looks like the GM warranty covers everything like the Chrysler one does. It's just the Chrysler knows their avg. consumer doesn't keep it more than 5 years, so it won't hurt them to much down the road.

 

I wonder what Ford will do with their warranties now.

It is non transferable. Not like most people keep their vehicles over 3 years anyways.
