2.8 L Ignition Timing?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I have an 87 s-15 with a 2.8 V-6 that is running horrible. I'm trying to adjust the timing however my VECI label is worn beyond readability. does anyone know what the correct timing should be on this engine? the Haynes manual only says to refer to the label :loser:

A little more information about what the truck is doing, if anyone can offer some ideas is:

1. after I drive I try to switch from drive to rev to get the truck in my parking space and it will stall.

2.the truck is lacking serious power. will only do a top speed of 45 going up small hills, I've tried down shifting and nothing happens.

3. there does not seem to be a passing gear. when I floor the accelerator nothing happens.

4. when ideling the engine surges you can hear the engine speed up then slow down till is almost stalls then it speeds up again. it also sounds like there is a miss somewhere.

5. when you try to maintain a slow speed such as 25mph the truck will surge. when doing say 40 mph it runs fine.

I've already replaced the dist. cap, rotor, plugs, wires, vacume lines, map sensor, fuel injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, and o2 sensor. I've tried to guess-ta-mate the timing but nothing is correct. I'm not familier with all these sensors and do hickies I'm used to straight engines without a bunch of mumbo jumbo. lol

can anyone help me with this mystery?

thank you everyone in advance

Jeff
