Performance Tune

I've been wanting to get a performance tune for some time, but I also want to get a corsa cat-back.

My question is does anyone know if the mail-order tuners (Wait4Me, Westers, PCMForLess, etc.) account for minor modifications such as cat-back exhausts and intakes or only major modifications such as superchargers, cams, headers, etc.?

Just wondering if I should get the cat-back prior to ordering the tune.

CAI and Exhaust first, then tune. The tuner will need to know what mods you have so he can tune accordingly.

I thought I read on a Wester's tune form that they only adjust for major modifications (i.e. superchargers, turbos, cams, headers, etc.), not for minor mods like CAI and cat-back exhausts. Not saying that the intakes and cat-back exhausts don't compliment the tune, but it's not clear that they change anything in the program for these minor modifications.

OK, I guess I'll send out some inquiries to the tuners. I'll let you know what I hear.

The Corsa exhaust I want is pretty expensive. I could hide the cost of the tune from the wife, but I don't think I could hide the cost of the tune plus the exhaust.

I am about to put on a Magnaflow cat-back. So I called Jesse (Wait4Me) and asked if I need to send my SCT back to have it retuned and he said: "No, the computer will learn over time and performance will get better over time" He said the computer is now smart enough to make the changes on its own now.

Hope this helps.

its usually best to actually discount the negative battery cable from your battery wait 45 seconds and then re attach and then restart your truck - the ECU parameters will start to re-set them selves and read the new exhaust system/headers/cold air - this trick is really only good with simple bolts ons

having a good custom tune done is the more ideal way to go but is really best after you are done with modifications - you can easily reveal more HP and Torque from your truck going this route - this is especially necessary if you guys do a super charger or turbo install or if you do a major upgrade i.e. cams, head work fuel enhancements - bigger injectors which usually goes along with upgrading to a supercharger or turbo charger

Ben (aka Green Monster),

How do you like the SCT with the 3 tunes from Wait4Me? I'm thinking that is the route to go with:

- performance tune

- economy tune

- towing tune

All at 91-93 octane.

I like the idea of the SCT for 3 different tunes, ease of switching back to stock tune, and no crank relearn required.

Sounds like Wait4Me does not make any program specific adjustments for minor mods just like I thought.

Just get the tune, most of them (including Wait4Me) aren't going to make any changes for minor mods like exhaust/CAI. The PCM does that all by itself.

SCT is the way to go. Jesse's tunes are already all setup for dual fuel as well.

I love the tunes. Honestly, I don't run the Economy tune much right now, as I am loving the performance tune way too much  I may have Jesse reprogram a tune for towing instead, as i would use that more than economy. The issue with the economy tune (it's this way with anybodys economy tune) is that it takes up to 500 miles for it to completely take effect. This is what Jesse told me. So switching back and forth isn't always an option with this tune. If i program economy, I have to leave it for a while for it to be worth it.

I love the daily driver tune. Fun but no too harsh. And the MAX performance is a LOT of fun.

Side note: Raced a guy with a 2wd Hemi Quad Cab today (had a scoop on the hood???) and beat him to 80 mph by a 1+ truck length.

Good Luck!

Nice work. I am yet to try my tune out (by racing a guy) yet. :gmc:

I was curious as to why you chose Magnaflow over Corsa for your cat-back. Magnaflow looks to be cheaper, but only by about $100-200.

Thanks,

Chris

"SCT" what is this? Thanks.

For the prices I found, I was going to pay nearly double for the Corsa. I got the Magnaflow to my door for $400 vs $800+

After listening to some sound clips of the Corsa Sport and Magnaflow I liked the sound of the magnaflow. Don't get me wrong! I loved the sound of the Corsa! Just not the price difference. To me the corsa sport would be a little to loud (I have heard just the opposite from Corsa owners) for towing. According to other opinions the Touring wasn't much louder than stock. I never got to hear a Touring system.

You never know what the future may bring. Down the road I may sell the Magnaflow and throw on a Corsa. Only time will tell. Overall I couldn't pass up the price...plain and simple.

If you want a sharp aggresive sound, go Corsa (if you can find the right price). The magnaflow is a little more subdued, based on my ears.

By the way it looks like we have nearly identical trucks. On the outside anyway.

    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
    • So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
    • Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.
    • That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
