Where Can I Mount Amps?

Recommended Posts

Looking for ideas as to where to mount 2 amps in a NBS extended cab. It is the LTZ with the big console. I wonder if you can mount them there? There is enough room for a stealthbox there.....so what do you guys think?? I will be mounting 2 10s under the rear seats in the new NBS Subthump box. Amps will not fit under the drivers or passengers seat.

i dont see why it cant go under the console area ...

why wont they fit under the seats though? looks to be enough room for me.

I am just assuming they wont fit under the seats. I just looked and there is not much room there. The seats are both power. Heck. I just realized there were A/C vents under the seats. You learn something everyday.

ah, yeah with power seats it would be different from mine ... the a/c vents tho spacers could be made to hold the amp just above those ...

I was just looking at the installation instructions for the JL Stealthbox(which I dont want) and it shows how to remove the console. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/12371.pdf Judging by the pics, there is plenty of room in there.

If you put an amp there it WILL overheat.

yes it ... WILL ... if you don't take measurements to make sure there is air flowing in onto the amp ... which is easily resolved with a simple fan from a computer case ... and some creative drilling and cutting.

Can't you put them behind the rear seats on the back wall of the cab?

I put two BIG ones in my '02 back there and they were fine and never overheated.

in the GMT-900 the extended cab back seat the bottom part folds up, but the top does not fold down. And when you fold the bottom part up, the top part rotates down a little bit then pushes up against the back wall of the cab, i do not know exactly how much space is left afterwards, but you would have to remove the seat just to mount them back there...

i was kinda disappointed when i realized this, as that is where i was planning on putting amps as well. now i am most likely going to build a custom console that goes from front to back (replacing the center part of the front seat as well) to hold my subs and amp. or put spacers on the front seats to give more then enough room under the front seats to hold 2 amps.

if you look in the "show me your heads" , there are pics of my jl audio stealthbox, that is awesome, and where i mounted my amps, its not the greatest spot, but it works! hope this helps!

Hmmm...I need to go look at one, but from the way you're describing it, it sounds just like the '99-07's were. There was a solid 8-10 inches of space at the bottom of that area with the seat down, and probably 4 or 5 inches with it tilted up.

And yes, I had to remove the seat to install them, but it was only about 5 nuts/bolts and a bit of lifting to get it out (I was by myself).

there is still enough room for at least one amp maby two if you get creative. i just installed a sub thump box (2-10's) and an alpine 400 Watt amp in an 08 GMC and had plenty of room behind the seat. you do however have to remove the entire back seat to install them but it is worth it, probably the best place for the amp in my opinion.

I am not sure if your rear weat will fold down.. (the back part) but if it will remove the carpet (or just lower it) take some wood and use liquid nail on it and place it on the back of the cab section. put the carpet back on let it sit for 24 hours and mount your amp to the wood.

Doing it this way will keep you from having to drill into the rear of the cab.. I know for Crew Cabs it works great if you have under seat subs..

    • I am having similar issues.. 08, 4.8L granted I did had a fender bender and minor damage up front passenger side but I don’t think it had anything to do with it.. I had the high and low pressure checked and my fan for my radiator keeps coming on.. replaced the pressure switch and don’t want to keep throwing parts at it. I did have some minor problems here and there like on long road trips sometimes the ac would get a little warm and then on the highway as soon as I give it a little gas or get a little heavier on the petal it started running cooler. Never had an issue with the ac besides the here and there.. but I also started having issues when I fuel up now it takes a bit to start ( super embarrassing) it runs fine and once started ( only happens after fueling up) starts fine any other time. Could they be related?
    • Spent a small fortune on fuel this weekend.   $6.69 diesel, 18 gallons of that. $6.99 92-octane ethanol free, 10 gallons of that for yard machines $5.59 87-octane for one of the cars, 11 gallons.   $250+ and I didn't even get a tug.   Hormuz ain't Hormuzin again, did not see that coming...LOL
    • Appreciate the advice. I've watched multiple videos. Most showing the most complex for those that have a center console, to one that showed maybe 2 pieces of trim being removed, like 6 screws, pulling back the screen and switch assembly, and installing the inline module. And this was a new/newer Silverado. That didn't look too bad. All the others show alot of trim pieces that need to be removed. I've broken those kind of tabs/clips on my C8 Corvette trying to get to the battery, and that was a lot less clips than what I think is involved here after watching multiple videos and looking at my dash today. I have one on the way. Called a reputable stereo place about installing it and got a "minimum" price of $175. Ouch! Looking forward to seeing what the instructions have to say.
    • Hard to say what the issue might be. Anything from the ability to cool the AC condenser up front, to blend door issues in the HVAC unit, to refrigerant charge, to compressor issues or issues in the lines.   Report back what the techs find on the 29th.   GM has service publications which list acceptable vent temperatures and AC pressures at given ambient temps and humidity. They probably won't touch the system if it's operating within those ranges.   I'm also surprised to hear your 2024 with the L8T is still using R134a? I was pretty sure the HD's had switched to the new refrigerant around 2020.
