Wheels For The Gmt900s

I've seen a lot of pictures here of the new GMT900s and I really like the look of some of the aftermarket wheels. My truck, even though it's a Sierra SLE2, came with P245/70R17s which look ridiculously tiny on this crew cab behemoth. I guess because it's 2WD they throw bulls**t tires/wheels on it.

I've looked at a few dealerships near me in the parts department for take-off wheels/tire combos, because I really like some of the stock 20" GMC wheels, but nobody takes those off, I guess, they take the 17's off the lower models and throw 22s on them or something instead.

So since I've never bought wheels for a truck/car before, what I'm looking for is info on how best to shop for them? Where's a good place that has good prices? I don't want to spend $2000 on wheels/tires when my current wheels/tires are actually working, but I really hate the stock look on them right now and would like to replace them with something bigger/more stylish.

Can anybody give me advice on brands/shopping methods/locations?

I'm in the Bay Area, CA, by the way, in case anybody has local shops they recommend.

No picture of the truck in the sig because the stock tires are embarrassingly small.

Watch EBAY, use keywords "2007 Silverado (or Sierra)". There are lots of sellers with new vehicle take offs of 18" and 20" GM wheels/tires.

I bought my 20" LTZ wheels/tires off EBAY for a great price, actually about $400 cheaper than what most of the complete sets were going for on EBAY. Some come with tire pressure sensors and some do not. You can remove your oem sensors and use them on almost any larger size GM wheels. That'll save you some money.

I sold my oem 17" cast aluminum wheels/tires locally and recovered half of what I paid for the new wheels/tires. Then I had DISCOUNT TIRE dismount/remount the sensors, balance, etc.

BTW, larger OD tires/wheels will probably have an affect on your overall fuel economy, speedometer accuracy and braking.

Thanks, that's a good idea, I'll check that out!

I know about the fuel economy and braking stuff, but I figured the speedometer and such could be corrected by either flashing the computer or staying close to the stock tire diameter.

You are correct that the speedometer can be corrected by a computer flash and/or staying close to the OD of the original wheels/tires you're removing.

You can use this site to compare the oem OD and aspect ratios to whatever wheel/tire combination you're considering. When you scroll down, it'll compute the % in speedometer inaccuracy, if any. You can simply adjust your speed accordingly.

yep Ebay-I just sold my 20`s with under 2000 miles on ebay -didnt get much $1100 but thats good for the buyer.

Well, I like the 20s but eBay was still too pricey for my tastes. I saw a set of Yukon Denali 18s at the dealership yesterday, the guy says he'll take $500 for all four, wheels and tires together. That's a hell of a deal and the 265/65r18s look a lot bigger than the 245/70r17s on the truck now. I also like the wheels better.

He said they'd put the wheels on, change out the TPMS sensors, and reprogram the computer for another $100, so for $600 total it's all done.

I think that's a good deal, what do you guys think?
