i keep reading post that hypertech is the best, but alot seem to call it hypercrap

Couldn't get enough info on superchip

so what would any of u recommend

Where are you reading that Hypertech is the best? Seems everything I read says to avoid anything made by Hypertech!

 

As for which is best, that's really up to the individual and what they want out of the product. Of the hand helds, here's what I know:

 

Superchips - Easy to use, but some folks have had various issues, they will allow tweaking some parameters and will read and clear Check engine codes. Internet updateable.

 

Diablo Sport - Easy to use, allow a lot more parameters to be tweaked, but requires a bit of a learning curve and time and effort to get optimal results. Will data log a lot of parameters and read and clear engine codes. Does not support every engine for the 07 NBS Trucks. Internet updateable.

 

SCT w/Custom Tune - about the same functions as Superchips, but loaded with custom tunes for your specific vehicle and needs.

 

Edge Evolution - 3 Tune plus a transmission only setting. So far, have not seen any reports of issues, however, is currently only available for the 07 NBS Trucks/SUV's. Can display up to 4 vital engine function, comes with a nifty dash pod to mount it on the dash (i.e. it actually has a function other than just loading a tune and checking engine codes). It allows limited tweaking for changs in tires and gears and will allow you to increase the top speed limiter. It also has limited data logging capabilities (not as many as the Diablo Sport), reads and clears engine codes, and is internet updateable.

 

Then of course, there are the custom tunes, and the biggest down fall to them is having to purchase a second core and then swapping out the whole ECU before taking it in for service so you don't chance them reflashing the ECU and over writing your custom tune! The hand helds can all be returned to stock prior to bringing your truck in for service.

 

As you have probably figured out, I have the Edge Evo, so I know more about it. I chose it because of the fact it displays the engine vitals that I find very helpful while towing our RV. Hope this helps some with your decision, I'm sure other will chime in with their experiences as well!

Well i tried the Superchip Flashpaq but they first one they sent me was already programmed for a car not even mine (dont ask) so they sent me another one but this one has had 2 errors that i had to fix by taking to one of thier local gurus (it wouldent turn on and it wouldent dl anything from internet) now i got it back and superchips told me for the 91 octane level to work i had to set ratio at 4.56 yea it works now but my speed reads 15 MPH off, so ive been tryin to return it since its been with the 30 days but the Customer Service is crap....Thats my experience with Superchips but im returning it for Edge Evolution but since they are taking so long ima miss out on rebate i think :S

I sold my Superchips and went with the Diablosport...its more adjustable than the SC...alot of people are liking the edge units for the 07+...Diablo doesn't have any tranny tuning for the 07 trucks yet...but I was able to dial the truck in with data logging and fine tuning the "canned" tune that come with it.

I personally have the diablosport predator and the reason I bought it in the first place was because I did my research here. Anywho I highly recommend this Tuner. It is great really woke up the truck. Here is the thing though...This tuner can remove most if not all Torque Management. I really do not recommend taking that torque management off. I did it and all of my mounts are worn out now. My truck only has 18,000 miles on it. You can definitely tell the TM was off it would smoke the tires if I did a breakstand (I was not able to get them turning before predator) it would squeal not just chirp the tires when shifting from first to second. It would also slam into gear every shift really violently. Yeah it was kind of fun driving it like that but it wore out my mounts. Now I have TM back on and you can feel the drivetrain hit when the truck shifts at anything above 2000 rpm. I love the programmer as well because I have true dual flowmasters that are dumped right before the rear axle. I love the sound but when I put them on they would drone because of the loss in back pressure they created and therefore I took a hit in mpg as well. Needless to say the Predator got rid of the drone and I got better MPGs then when it was stock. I get about 20 mpg per tank. That is if I am not always hammering it. If I do drive it like i stole it my average goes down to 17. Oh and I almost forgot with the Predator you also get unlimited custom tunes. You just contact one of their specialists and tell them what you want and what your truck has i.e. exhaust, intake... and they will whip up a custom tune for you. You can either send your programmer back to them or you can purchase a link cable for your computer and they can email you the program then you upload from your computer into the Predator and your good to go.

I installed the Edge Evolution on my '07 MAX 4X and love it! Fixed many of the things I did not like, especially while driving around town. I have only loaded the Economy so far, and have not dash mounted it yet. I already notice a big difference in driveability.
