E-z Lift Tailgate?

for those who have it, how much easier is it to lift then the old standard? The truck I looked at this evening was supposed to have it, but it did not seem like it was any easier then on my current truck!!!

I've got one and all I've got to compare it to is my '95 1500 tailgate which is like a vault door. The easy lift is much lighter even with a 10lb rubber mat screwed to it. I can close the gate one-handed from the side of the truck with an arthritic arm. You should check the left side hinge and make sure there is a tortion assist rod running from it into the bottom side of the gate. Well worth $95.

We've got it on our '07 Silverado crew cab. While shopping for a truck on the lot, we compared a standard tailgate to the assisted lift tailgate and it was night and day between the two. Even my wife can lift the tailgate w/o much effort. It is worth it to us.

I've got the easy lift gate as well. Noticeable difference. However, it still drops when you open it. So I put an EZ Down cylinder to resolve that issue. Now I've got it both ways.

This is really weird. When I shopped for my truck there was a model with a standard TG backed up to it and I could only sense a "slight difference" between the two. I have now been driving the truck for over three months and last weekend, for the first time, I went to Lowe's and bought some wood. When I went to put it in the bed and lowered the TG, I was surprised at how light it was! Then I remembered that the new truck had the "E-Z-Lift" TG option. It wasn't until I used it in context that I realized how really light it is compared to my '01 Sierra.

I have one. I noticed a difference but I'm not sure it's a valid comparison as the only other truck I have is a Ford F-250 and it literally takes 2 hands and sometimes you have to "get under" it to lift it. It's definetly easier than that.

There is a noticeable difference between my EZ lift tail gate and previous trucks I've owned that didn't have the feature. In my opinion for $95.00 it's a slam dunk.

Now I can get the wife to unload feed from the back of my truck and she still has enough strength to close the tail gate when she is done.

A friend and I were comparing the difference between both of our trucks tonight. I have a '08 Sierra with the EZ Lift tailgate and my friend has a '08 Silverado with the standard tailgate. I ordered my truck about a month ago and it finally arrived last week. He bought his truck yesterday. To be honest, neither one of us could tell the difference. The EZ Lift tailgate may be slightly easier to open and close, but it is not very noticeable. The advantage of having the EZ Lift is that it comes packaged with the locking tailgate. Not sure how secure the locking mechanism is because you can actually see the locking mechanism moving from under the tailgate handle when you lock and unlock the lock. It almost appears that someone could move the mechanism with a screwdriver. There is plenty of room for a screwdriver to fit from under the handle.

Now, compared to my '94 C1500, it is much lighter.

What is an EZ Down cylinder and where do you get one?

The day I need an "EZ Lift Tailgate" is the day I need to trade my truck in for a Minivan or a Tundra (I hear their tailgates are wimpier than a minivan's doors). Better yet, when that day comes, just dig my grave and toss me in. These are TRUCKS we are talking about, right? Don't you find it a bit ironic that you when you use your "Lady Tailgate", you are usually loading something into the bed that is much harder than lifting a tailgate?

Just my .02 on the topic.

These are TRUCKS. I don't NEED woodgrain on the dash, or Bose audio, or leather seats. Hell, I don't NEED power locks or windows or tinted glass and I definately don't NEED a seat that adjusts 17 thousand ways.

But for 95 bucks, a tailgate that saves me some trouble and includes the lock factory-installed, I'm not going to complain.

I was at the Chevy lot yesterday and I could not tell much of a difference if any between the tail gate assist and the regular tailgate.

The two trucks were side by side and I went back and forth three times and I could not tell the difference.

The only thing I noticed was the one with the supposed tail gate assist had a locking device which would be nice if you had a camper shell on it.

I'd get it for that feature alone and it's only 95.00.
