How Much Depreciation?

How much depreciation do you figure on a new truck for driving it off the lot?

I have an '07 Extended Cab Z71 with 5.3V8, trailer package, LT1 + Convenience package of power seats, dual air conditioner controls, XM sat radio etc...sticker was 33k and some change.

It has 630 miles on it and I want to either sell it privately or trade it in.

So how much do you figure for a new vehicle just off the lot? Just looking for ballpark. It's going one way or the other will just depend on what I get in trade for it.

Went and looked up on kelley bule book and they dont have anything listed. So i went to autotrader.com and saw a comparable truck to yours listed at 26,999 with 711 miles on it. That was the price on it from a dealer. Hope that helps.

Heres the link to the truck not sure if its exactly what you have

Thanks I didn't think of auto trader. I looked at a few of the used car price sites and only one had it listed. I thought maybe there was a standard % depreciation or something.

out of curiousity what makes you want to sell it already ?

Onstar. I literally spent the majority of my dad screwing with the Onstar people. I work in the woods everyday running a logging crew.

First I got high centered on a water bar and used a skidder to push the truck off. Onstar called and said I had a hard hit and wanted to know if I was OK. I told them never call again unless the air bag goes off.

Later I had the truck idling and bumped the front grille guard with the skidder turning it to put on the traier. I don't know how long they had been calling but when I got back in the truck they were calling. They said they would continue to call anytime the Gmeter went off and especially since I was shown off the highway/road. I got aggravated the 2nd time because they disable the radio while they try and go thru all this stuff and you can't even hang up on them after you tell them it's OK.

I don't have time to screw with all that every day. I asked about the possibility of having the dealer totally disable Onstar and they/he said it was not possible (or they just wouldn't do it) because it was a safety feature akin to them removing the seat beat lol.

I looked around on the web and sure enough if you remove the connections the truck won't start. I didn't have the option of a new truck without Onstar as they all have it now.

So taking the day off to go by dealer in the morning and if I get the same he can't remove it we have a Ford dealer right across the street where it will be traded in.

OH no I wonder if this is going to be an issue when I plow :rollin:

I don't need cops showing up to see if Im alright Just because I wacked a curb or rock.

well once it hits a year the onstar will expire and they won't call you anymore.

anyone know where this G sensor is?

You'll have a lot bigger issues than OnStar to worry about if you do that...

True, but I'm with NathanL on this one. I REALLY WISH that you could order a truck without OnStar. That's one of the things I was presistant about when I was shopping for my '03, I didn't want it. I sure there is a way around OnStar disabling the truck if its not plugged in, but then you still have to look at the nasty antenna.

Well the 2 sites that had a trade in value was right at what I paid for it - $24,700 on a 33,400 sticker. Resell to another invidividual gave a little higher price.

I know it sucks but I'd rather loose a few thousand and get it done with now than put up with that everyday. Today was the first day I drove it to work because I had to wait to get a grille guard for it. I spent nearly 1/4 of my working day talking to onstar. I also assume at some point if you set it off and you don't answer quick enough they alert the authorites.....not sure how that would go over around here considering we have 2 law enforcement officers for the entire county - to come out and find out I dinked my truck with a skidder.

I talked to like 9 people at Onstar today and got every non answer in the world. I wanted to opt out of the 1year contract - couldn't do that. I even called back after the second time and told them I sold the vehicle but they said it wouldn't let them enter that in the computer on that new of an account.....

Unplug the antenna. It won't shut the truck down. If they want to tell you its unsafe, they can do it by mail. Don't trade in the truck because of it.

How do you reach it? I looked behind the glove box but what I have there is the XM decoder. I can see toward the radio and there appears to be another silver box. I pulled the dash along with the radio/a/c controls and you can't get behind the brace to reach that.

Privacy issues. OnStar.

Yes, they know where you are at all times.

But let's be realistic. If you have a cell phone, they know where you are at all times too. All cell phones have a locater chip. They are watching you and they do know where you are.

Yes, you can turn the cell phone off or just toss in the river.

Even the Post Office has a master list of all names that receive mail at every address. And today, even if you build a cabin 20 miles in the woods, that cabin must have a street number.

There are no secrets anymore.

If you have a CarMax dealership in your area, you might try getting a quote from them and/or selling it outright to them.

I sold my last two trucks to them, and even considering the tax trade in advantage, still came out much better than trading them in. This all came to my attention when I was looking to buy a Tahoe in 2003, by the salesman..........told me they were ripping me off on the trade in, and to go to CarMax, get my money in hand, and then go from there.........has worked for me.

Good luck.

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
