This is a pretty easy mod and believe it or not, you DON'T lose radio reception.

 

1. Remove the black housing around the anntenae. Easier to get at if you pop the hood. Apply some upward force and it pops right off.

 

2. Get out your mini deep socket and remove the three bolts that hold up the anntennae.

 

3. There is enough slack wire to be able to move the antennae around significantly. Route it under the hood and alongside where the body meets the rubber seal on the side of the hood. The antenae actually fits in the rubber bumper pretty well for some extra hold.

 

4. Drill a hole in the rubber liner and the sheet metal beneath it and zip-tie your antannae down so that it clears the spring that pushes up the hood.

 

Your done! A clean looking truck is now yours.

On the GMT-900s, here is what I found most effective:

 

1) Remove clipped-on plastic piece around antenna

2) Remove antenna from base

3) Remove (3) bolts holding down antenna base

4) Loosen/Remove (2) bolts, next to antenna mounting location, that hold down plastic cowl around wipers/vent/etc.

5) Get a little slack from antenna wire. Position antenna base so it is facing towards plastic cowl (running parallel with bottom of windshield)

6) Pull up on plastic housing just enough to work your antenna, tip first, underneath the housing.

7) Once antenna is underneath housing, connect back to antenna base (whole assembly is now horizontal, again running parallel with the base of your windshield)

8) Replace clipped-on plastic piece over antenna area.

 

You are now done. 5 minutes worth of work and your truck looks 10-times better. No noticable difference in radio reception either.

At some point you will lose reception, antennas need to be vertical in order for them to be totally effective. Thats why car manufacturers do it. You want it clean looking, use a amplified antenna box that sits behind the radio.

i only use an ipod.. all the time, so antenna is useless to me.. and if you want to be slightly more lazy than this mod, you can do what i did.

 

pop off plastic cover

unscrew the antenna

replace the plastic cover

 

either leave bare threads, or, put some form of plastic or metal cap over the threads. I machined a very small billet cap that threads right on, and just barely sticks above the plastic... much less work and time than doing all of that, thats for sure!

 

but also like i said, im not worried about radio reception... although i have tried it just to see the diff, and it was clear as day, until i was city driving between tall buildings. but then again, radio is horrible quality sound, so even if your antenna divides the clouds, its still gonna suck.

heres my version. that cap on there is a motorcycle part i had laying around... im machining a new, smaller one next week though. hope this gives ppl ideas!

Well, i tried this today. i was happy with the end result as far as the look, but when i went for a drive tonight, i had no AM reception at all!! guess i will be putting it back tommorow. i can't miss out on Rush or Hanniity in the afternoons.

Has anybody installed a power retracting antenna instead?? I haven't checked to see if there's room, but I intend to. That way, you only have the antenna when you need it.

Yup. Unless you're in an area with really strong signals, you can kiss off AM, and a fair amount of FM reception too with this delete.

I undeleated mine. XM wasn't enough for me. Wilcow's OK, but he ain't no Godfather.

I installed a power antenna in my '99 just needed a little muffler strap to hold the bottom of it in place. But in order to do this you have to take the fender off.

A saw this on another forum,but instead of just installing the factory cowl end cap back on with the hole in it...order the cowl end cap from a escalade..seeing as there antennas are in the back glass,there end caps have no holes in them ... escalade cowl end cap part number is #15287179 which you can order from gmpartsdirect.com or any other gm parts store.

 

here is a pic of the factory end cap and the escalade end cap:

      Do you remember that Harley Davidson was more successful (solvent) when it produced about 60% of the market demand (by design) and forced wait times of up to three years? Even when your turn came around it was, "Take what we are giving you or move to the back of the line and start over". HUGE markup's were 'normalized' and dealer killed. 40% markup and no floor plan? What's not to love? Greed will kill them yet. They have surplus production and customer base is tanking. And still they think nosebleed pricing will work.

      The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.

      Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.

      I can't believe that could possibly be the case. It should be 36mo/100k miles from installation. Then again, it also seems like since a dealership installed it, it'd all be in the system and you wouldn't need to worry about registering, either. Shows you what I know. 😄 Hope this one outlives the warranty!
