Driver 1 Or Driver 2

Hi all,

 

When I press unlock on the key fob labeled "1" the truck thinks driver 2 is going to drive and adjusts seat, mirror and radio. If I use fob labeled "2" it thinks driver 1 will be using the truck and all saved driver 1 options take place.

 

No big deal really, but it got me wondering if there is a procedure for an owner to program these key fobs.

Some people buy used and don't get those nifty things. ;)

 

My SS has two buttons inside it "1" and "2" that you set the pedal height, seat position, etc on...And the corresponding FOB sets the truck up when you use it.

 

In other news...WTF does "FOB" stand for anyway? "Flip Off Bob" makes my boss angry, and "Fern Of Bernoulli" doesn't make much sense.

I'll tell you what you could do,You could just switch the outer back half of them (You know were it says "1" & "2") open them up like you would to change the battery and just swap'em over.

Thats what I would do.

Even when buying used always ask the owner of dealer for the owners manual. I have and GM dealers if you ask before you close the deal will get one for you. As for private owners usually have it in the house. That doesn't make much sense leaving it at home instead of in the vehicle.

You're right and no offense taken. RTFM is always good advice, however, now I've read it four times and have learned that the dealer can reprogram a new code if you loose one or that you can synchronize the FOB to your truck, but I still don't know if it is possible to change the driver 1 or driver 2 designation.

What year is the truck? I assume 03-up?

 

1. Close all vehicle doors.

 

2. Insert the key into the ignition.

 

3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver’s door panel-continue to hold down until instructed

to release in step 9.

 

4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.

 

5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine).

 

6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

 

7. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

 

8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

 

9. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will lock and unlock the doors automatically.

 

10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously until the door locks and unlocks.

This step may take up to 30 seconds.

 

11. Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional transmitter (including any existing transmitters).

 

12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.

 

 

The order in which you program the remotes is what determines whether it is linked to driver 1 or driver 2. Be sure to do step 12 or it won't work.
