im driving home yesterday and my abs light and check airbag light illuminate on the dash. i pull over and shut off the truck to check the air bag sensor connections under the seat (all seems fine). when i try to start my truck it wont start. my gauges are illuminated, but the truck wont turn over. i also notice that the gear indicator line is not illuminated. no matter what gear i select the dash light does not recognize it. further, when i remove the keys and open the door my gauges and headlamps stay illuminated and can not be turned off manualy with dash dial. my onstar is non operable. and my stereo turns off and on by itself. i call onstar by phone and request at tow truck. after about 30min. my truck starts but now my gauges are not working even though they are illuminated (all dials on zero). my stereo will turn on, but then turns itself off. onstar is now working. so i call to cancel the tow and request diagnostics while i am driving to the dealer. the service tech says that the diagnostics came back successful, but with no information in the diagnosic fields -NONE. she said she had never seen this. i made it to dealer and dropped off my truck. they called that afternoon and said the only problem they could find is a bad passenger air bag sensor. they also asked about my aftermarket head unit. i told them i have had it since the truck was two days old, and never had a problem. my question -- is it really feasible for an air bag sensor to cause all those problems? that diagnosis leaves me feeling uneasy. i need to make a trip out of town this weekend and don't need to be on the side of the road. if it was really only an airbag sensor, wouldn't onstar be able to run diagnostics? something does not seem right.
