Forgetful Radio

Recommended Posts

The factory XM radio in my '03 Silverado can't remember the names to the stations the presets are set to. It remembers the channel number, for example, channel 14, and will tune to it, but it can't remember that that channel is called "Bluegrass." After 5-10 minutes all is well again until you park for an hour or so. Then it forgets again.

Is this typical of this radio and XM or is there something I can fix?

TIA,

Eric

Does this happen to all stations or just some, like Bluegrass? If it is just some, check The Blend 25. all my XM radios do that with that station.

I have 6 presets for XM1 and it will remember some and not others at different times. Sometimes it will forget the names on preset 1,2,3 and remember 4,5,6, or sometimes, just the opposite. It is random.

The radio in my wifes Hyundai doesn't do this so I'm beginning to think the problem is with the radio and not XM.

It's just an annoying. It remembers the the station, just its name.

You can try a refresh. Use this link http://www.xmradio.com/refresh/index.xmc

I've never had to do this with a radio but I have recommended it to others before. You need your radio ID handy, which is on channel 0.

I am wondering if this helped you out at all?

No, it didn't. I've done the refresh thing about 3 times now and it makes no difference.

I'm beginning to think that my radio is one of the first generation XM radios and that XM has gone through some changes. There might be some backward compatibility issues going on here. Fortunately, it's just a minor annoyance and doesn't affect the operation of the radio. I still receive the XM signal and the presets all work; it's just a crap shoot whether the radio will remember the channel name or not.

Thanks for your help,

Eric
