Priced out my truck today:

2008 GMC 2500HD

crew cab

short bed

4x4

6.0L

SLE2 package

stealth gray metallic

With my GM discount, incentives and bonus cash it came to $32,750

Here's my question, i know theres room to talk the price down so based on the 32,750 where should i start?? 29,000, 30,000??? Lower, this will be my first brand new truck, so just looking for some tips from those of you who are fimiliar with the process. I already told the guy im shopping around and have no problem driving 100 miles or so if it means getting a better deal. NO TRADE IN, i will sell my truck outright, i have a beater car to get me by till the new one shows up. any help is great!!

I went to at least 4 gmc dealers and they all were offering invoice pricing. A few i asked right away and the others i went though building it on the computer but in the end they all said invoice.

edit: oops i just re-read your post and now realized your a gm employee, so forget what i stated.. :driving:

Made up numbers are no good! You can't just make up $29k and offer it to them. You don't want to pay a cent more then invoice. You need to START at invoice and bargain DOWNWARD. Try to get GMS or LESS. If you can get GMS, then you are a good negotiator. Anything less takes skill, because it dips into the dealers remaining small profit margin.

Do NOT pay doc fees, prep fees, gas fees, cleaning fees, ect..! Do NOT buy a GM extended warranty, VIN etching, undercoating or any other type of 'service' from the dealer. You just want the truck and maybe some free GM accessories, like wheels, mud flaps, nerf bars, ect...

You have to get SEVERAL (ALL dealerships in area) dealerships involved (including Chevy). They will play against one another until you have a low price winner. Lastly, DO NOT let any dealer tell you that Chevy is somehow worth less then GMC. Just laugh in their face. The trucks are made on the same assembly line. You can play Chevy's low price against your lowest GMC dealer and walk away with a real cheap GMC.

PLUS---- don't tell the dealer that you have a GM card discount until AFTER they have already accepted your deal and you are ready to sign the paperwork. The discount comes off the final price. If you have a business, they take full advantage of the GM business choice program. You can get all sorts of the different things free from GM just by proving ownership in a business.

Hey thanks, i think you may have missed that in my first post that i im at 32,750 that INCLUDES my GM discount(GMS) which saved me $4200 AND the current incentives and bonus cash. 32,750 is with NO dealer haggeling, so i wanted to lowball them and see what they were willing to cut it down to. Any idea what they make off a truck of that price range??

The end of my 1st post tells you exactly what to do. Do not use made up numbers. You will get shot down first try.

Gms pricing is the best that you can get. You can go to 10 dealers and gms is the same werever you go. Also check out the price on a Slt, you will be suprised that there is not much difference between a Sle2 and a Slt.

Yeah i like that idea of getting multiple dealers involved, i can think of five canidates within 75 miles of home, like i told them, i have no problem driving to get the best deal!

Yeah i see its not much more, the only thing keeping me at an sle2 is the "car like" dash in the slt, i'm a fan of the "truck like" dash and i can still get leather and SLE2 is pretty well equiped for what i want and looking to spend.

Did the salesguy LAUGH at you when you said that?

Are you a GM employee/retiree/family member??????

Then you are getting the GMS price. (Not to be confused with the GM supplier

price). GM employee price is LOWER than the dealers invoice price.

The price is set in stone and is on the invoice and the dealer should

show it to you on request.

There is NO lower price avail. than the GM employee deal! The Gm dealer

gets paid a flat fee from GM for handling/selling the vehicle to you!

The only added charge by the dealer is the DOC fee. That is limited by GM

to $75 bucks.

Of course you will pay state inspection/emission, sales tax, license plate

fees etc.................................

If your thinking you can bully, BS, shop or whatever to get a lower price than the

GM employee deal be prepared to be shown the door....................

One thing not mentioned..

it's possible to get an exceptional deal at the end of the month when the dealerships are trying to make their sales numbers. Shop the last 4 or 5 days of the month and you might just get what you are looking for.

It is 100% possible to go below GMS. I did it and I've never worked for GM, ever. I got $500 below GMS, then a a whole bunch of free stuff throw in, including a set of factory alloys. It all comes down to how good you are at negotiating and how many dealers you get involved. The more dealers, the better.

I used this method and it worked well. They were dying to make a deal.

sonjaab, yes i am a GM employee but like mini1 and others have pretty much said, the dealer needs to give me a reason to buy from them, and i plan on getting multiple dealers involved like i said i'll drive a hundred miles or so if im saving enough, im in no rush i've got the time to shop around. i also like that month's end idea, maybe i'll try that also! thanks!
