What To Do Next?

Ok, I've got a 2007 1/2 ton GMC Classic SLE.

I've done the K&N CAI, Magnaflow DOR Exhaust, and bought a FlashPaq from Superchips.

-I wish I would have researched the tuner a bit more first. Contemplating a Diablo sport tuner for TM adjusting.

Any suggestions as to where to go from here?

I was thinking headers, JBA was suggested before.

Decent start, like you said, I would have went with a tune though. Not to worry, I first went with a Superchip on my SS...ditched that after being educated and got a tune and am very pleased with the results. As for headers, Ive got the Dynamax LT's with hi flow cats (spendy) but I absolutely love them! Ive heard OBX is essentially the same design with out the cost? Might be worth looking into.

Headers are a good step in the right direction if you don't have emmissions checks. The cheapest are Pacesetters with an off road Y pipe to connect to your factory cat back exhaust. They cost $500 for the coated sets. Tons of people run them, their cheap, but you get what you pay for. Thorley makes good Tri Y headers with excelent build quality, but their more directed towards low and mid range power. Dynatechs and stainless works make excellent headers. if your looking for performance don't buy shorties.

Honestly I'll probobly go with pacesetters after I get this cam in, even tho their cheap and probobly made in China :driving:

Hi,

So with the custom tunes, how do you remove them incase of a dealership visit?

I mean that is one nice thing about the tuner [Flashpaq] I have.

I found out they don't improve performance unless you run premium fuel.

Secondly, going full header [opposed to shorty] pulls the cat converters right?

I know there are O2 sensors ahead and behind the cats.

I'm in Canada [Edmonton] with only plans to drive through Vancouver, not live there. [They have a similar program to California, -- AirCare] So would I need the cats?

I might be wrong here...

Thanks for the ideas.

Just box up the truck and send it to me for an extensive 36 month evaluation of your mods. I'll send you a monthly report!

When you go to the dealer you take out your tuned PCM, and put your stock one back in. Takes 5 minutes!

If you don't live in an emission controled area, I'm pretty sure other places emissions laws won't effect you if your just driving through.

No dude....pull the cats.

I live in Victoria, its only Vancouver and the surrounding areas that have Air care, If your exhaust is stupidly loud they may pull you over though, if they look up under and see no cats they may give you a Vehicle inspection slip. You only have to get it done if you're insuring your vehicle in BC though. So I'd say screw it.:cheers:

Oh yeah...and for the 4 O2 sensors, you plug 2 of them (forward ones) into the headers/collectors and the aft ones you get 2 O2 simulators for, its basically a resistor pack that Plugs into the wiring telling your ecm there is an O2 sensor there and it works fine.

You're in Edmonton and Wester's Garage is in Tilley AB. Do all your mods and then book a dyno tune at Wester's. He's one of the best tuners around and Tilley is a short drive away. OK I checked and it's closer to Cowtown, it's 310 miles from Edmonchuck but that's close when you live in the Prairies. You'll get the best bang for your buck.

I always that that Gibson made a good header for trucks I was looking at getting the ceramic for my truck. The only bad thing is that they only come in shorty's and I wish that they made them longtube to bolt up to the cats. I know that I could custom the system but I just inserted high flow cats...

Do the new silverado's have electric cooling fans?

so if i got a set of longtube headers on my 04 1500 with the 5.3 V8 do they take out the cats too or do they go right before the cats or what? may sound like a stupid question but i havent looked under this truck yet...too lazy and busy...anyway does anyone have a picture of where the cats are or know where they are?

What most people do is with LT's is they delete the cats, but some people just mount it a little further down. Get some hi flows if your gonna change out the cats, to get the full gian of the LT's and i would suggest a custome tune, and just invest the 600 for the hptuners that way you can do what ever you like with your car your friends cars.

anyone have a little clip of what it would sound like with longtube headers no cats and a super 40's dual chamber muffler and maybe longtubeheaders with cats and the same muffler?
