Steering Problems - Help

I don't get this. I did perform a search, but didn't find anything definitive.

My "04 Sierra 1500 4X4 sometimes turns VERY hard the to left, and always turns to the right very easily. I have flushed the fluid a few times, made sure it is topped off, serpentine belt is good, front suspension and tires are good, tried some seal conditioner stuff, etc.

So is it the pump or the rack??? Just doesn't make sense to me at all. I would think that if my pump was bad I would hear it and it would be a problem turning both directions. I hope someone can help me out. Thank you.

It sounds like the spool valve in the steering box. Mine went at 24000, from what I remember they are not servicable and the box needs to be replaced.

It might not be the box, I can't remember the name of the part its on the tip of my tongue, it's almost like a shock mounted sideways similar to a stabilizer. That happened to my other truck

Anybody got anymore help? 5000 miles later, same problem. Doesn't seem like anyone can agree (either on here or mechanics around town). I hate to throw parts at it until I find the problem. Please help if you can. Thank you.

Has it been lubed? My steering was a little firm to the left when i bought it at 91k miles. I lubed it and it took about 100 miles to free up.

What do you mean by FIRM? And sounds of belt slippage when that happens?

When you flushed the fluid, did you have the front end lifted and turn the wheel several times left and right? Did you suck the fluid out of the reservoir and replace or take off the return line and fill with engine running and turning wheel?

Your problem is the steering "gear/box" unit

It is NOT the pump. If it was the pump itself, it would occur all steering manuevers, left or right.

Go to a salvage yard...you can get one cheap
