6.2 - First Oil Change A Mess

Here's what you do. Look at the oil pan plug. Imagine the oil arcing out. Move the oil pan a little to the passenger side to where you think it should be. Now move the #%@# thing another foot further. Cause that oil will shoot sideways out of there like it was under pressure!

I only had 550 miles on it but I always do an extra break-in change and cut open the filter. On my old 96 Vortec 350, the filter contained a lot of metal. This one has almost nothing. A few tiny flakes and some sealant particles. Maybe 1/20th of what I found on the older engine. A fresh fill of Mobil 1 5W30 and we're good to go.

Not me. Not even a drop. I thought it was a piece of cake. I used std ramps. The oil didn't even come close to the wheel. BUT, like I stated in another thread, I only warmed the engine oil up to 115 degrees (Edge has oil temp display). So it was warm, but not hot, I am sure that helped control the flow somewhat. No problems, no mess, simple 15 min job. :D

If you have it put your truck in four-wheel drive,Thats what I do and it crawls up the ramps nicely!

not to mention, that 20 dollar oil change is cheap dino oil, cheap filter, and probably no other "complimentry" services like topping off fluids, greasing, ect...

LOF means lube, oil and filter

MOST likley it is a name brand oil/filter that is SAE branded.

Don't give a rats azz anyhoo as I change my oil every 4000 miles

or so! The $pendy oil change places charge $35 bucks anyhoo!

Top off fluids? Most places charge extra............................

175k on my GTO............150k on my Z............113k on my 96 Caddy

Original untouched engines............Works for me!

I'm with you sonjaab. 40+ and i'm pretty much done doing it myself. have averaged 20-50K mi/year for 20 years, that's a lot of oil changes every 5K, sometimes it was every month. and i have owned many, many dino vehicles that go 100-150 with no issues. only blew up an engine once, and it had mobil 1 in it, first and last time i tried that experiment.

In another word, you say stay away from Mobil 1?

I never have used any fancy oil in any of my cars.
