Evening At The Track

While working in south Louisiana a week ago, I had the opportunity to spend some time at No Problem Raceway on a Wed night, which is test and tune night. It has been a long time since I have been to a real 1/4 mile track and I was amazed. I really enjoyed it and got to see some guys running some late model GM trucks including one 900 series.

I am now fully convinced that our little 5.3s are rock solid motors. I watched some of these guys running the cr@p out of their trucks over and over again. There was one guy in a Sierra that must have made 30 passes and each pass was within tenths of his previous passes. He just liked running his truck I guess because I saw no improvement in his times.

I also watched a new Mustang GT smoke a Charger Hemi about 5 times. It is like the guy in the Charger could not get enough or he just did not believe what was happening. The Mustang pulled him about 3 links out of the hole and never quit pulling him the rest of the track.

Our customer in this area has 3 race cars, an 87 Camaro mid 10 second car, a 67 Camaro with a 434 cu in small block running mid 9's and an altered dragster that he has not had on the track yet. I was amazed at all the electronics in these cars. The electronics in his 67 control everything from the launch, to the revs to the shifting. I kind of like the 87 which was all manual.

Did ya run the YukonXL ? ;)

Yea I did but I did not want to brag. It ran a 14.87 at 102 MPH. Not to bad for a truck this size.

Ok, Ok, I was dreaming that it ran this.

No I was down there on work and in my Dodge Caravan. I would have run it but I hated to shame all those guys that were out there in those Mustangs and Chargers.
