New Duals

Well, ever since I got my truck, I've had this nagging thing in the back of my mind that "she needs to be able to breathe better." So, I took some vacation time this week, decided to not actually "go" anywhere and spend money... and spend the money on the truck instead.

I've ordered a couple of other things, but the only thing I've gotten "done" this week is a dual exhaust system that goes from each cat, through a Flo-Pro 2-in/2-out Big Oval muffler, to some look-kinda-like-Corsa-but-not-as-expensive, made-at-the-shop tips.

Here's a before picture with the stock exhaust that came on the truck :

Here's an after picture w/ the new setup :

...and here's ready-to-roll :

Next will be the Volant Cold Air Intake and the McCulloch HID Conversion kit. More pictures to follow, as more things get done.

Looks great How does it sound.

It sounds good. I wanted something a 'little' more throaty or deeper, but I didn't want a lot of attention from cops. So, this system fits the bill nicely. After I left the muffler shop earlier, I pulled-up to a redlight and noticed how quiet everything seemed. I turned off the radio and could barely even hear the truck running...

When you get on it, though, she'll definitely talk to you nicely and put a grin on your face... or at least on my face. She seems to pull me back in the seat a little more than she used to, too. That's another definite plus.

 Looks good, how about a sound clip? :chevy:

haha! Not yet... As I left earlier, it dawned on me that I should've taken the time to record how it "did" sound. Then, I could have a before and after.. But, no dice on the before clip. I'll see what I can come up with for an after, though. I think my phone is supposed to have some sort of 'memo recorder' or something on it, but I've never tried it.. We'll see!

Thanks guys. That's kind of what I was hoping for with the four tips.. something that didn't look like everything else. The guy brought out probably a half-dozen or more tips, but I finally came came up with "I like THAT size, but THIS layout.. can you make it?" He did, so it all worked out well! Thanks again!

Looks so d**n good, can you tell me which exhaust you got and how much it cost you?

Thank you! I appreciate that.

I went to a local muffler shop that my dad has gone to for years. We cut-off most of the existing pipe and took one pipe from each cat back to a Flo-Pro 2-in/2-out Big Oval muffler. From there, he did what it looks like Corsa is doing for their cat-back system for the 6.2. One pipe over the passenger side of the axle and one pipe waaay over the rear-end housing, to give lots of clearance.. then, out the back.

As for the price... Tips and all, it was in-line with the price GM is charging for their single-pipe to duals-look setup on the GM Accessories website. Unlike what GM is selling, though, it's actually a true-dual setup AND I get to keep the spare tire UNDER the bed. So, plus-plus!

Oh, yeah, I may not have sound-files for a before and after, but I do have before and after pictures of all the work that was done, if anyone is interested... Looks like the only one that's missing is the "over the rear-end housing" shot.. darn it.

That came out real nice man. Wow..I never really liked duals out the back, but that looks pretty sweet.

Thank you! I've been reading the boards enough to know how you are about chrome. So, I take that as a big compliment, especially coming from you.

One of the things they did that I wasn't expecting, but I liked, was that they blacked-out the exhaust pipes aft of the rear axle. So, you pretty much only see the tips coming out, not the plumbing ahead of the tips. I thought that was a nice touch. He also fashioned a cover for the tow hitch receiver. I thought that was pretty cool, too .. and definitely wasn't something I asked for or had even thought about.
