well, dont worry about an intake yet, just cut out a 4 inch hole in the bottom of ur stock airbox . Do the mods that really make a difference.. but remeber our trannys and rear ends are weak.. so if i was u, i would order long tube pacesetter headers/off road y pipe combo. get some e-fans, and look into a locker rear end with 373s or 410s. after all of that do not get a chip.. get a mail order tune for 250 from wheatley at gowheatley.com or better yet get a dyno tune..after all of this it would be like a whole new truck..

theres soo much u can do.. and when looking into a tranny visit finish line transmissions they will hook u up.

first i would say gowheatley.com and call him and tell him what u want.. send him ur pcm and he will send u one back with it tuned and ur truck will run like a champ.. day and night difference. 250 bucks.. tell him what u want. tell him balls to the wall performance. and 89 oct hot tune or w.e gas u use.

I would make sure the exhaust you have is mandrel bent. First. I have a aftermarket intake on the truck and there is a big difference in power i can feel, just droping a air filter in and cutting a hole in your air box is not enough, as the stock inlet tubing on the 07 Silverado are very restrictive due to sound deadening design, and that would be the same as the 01's. Remember when it comes to intake and exhaust, GM was thinking about sound levels inside the cab when it designed it not power.

Then i would go with a dyno tune, but make sure you have hptuners just in case you need to revert it back to stock.

I would also look into raising the compression ratio up to 10.5:1.

Headers would be nice, long tubes preffered, but if you live in California then i would suggest going with 50 state legal ones, as cops around here dont care and will tow your car/truck if its not carb certified.

Or if you want, get a built 6.0L mate it with a 6L90 drop it in and you got yourself a 13' sec truck.

I too am looking for a few things to try and beef up my lazy 5.3 and I looked at the intakes. The K&N FIP Kit website has a dyno chart that shows it only makes 8 HP more, and only above 5000 RPM. The stock curve and their curve pretty much lay on top of eachother until 4500. So in normal driving, you're spending 300 bucks for a measly 8 HP you'll never see.

your first and most noticeable upgrade would be a handheld tuner or an ECM re-flash.

20-30 more hp gain, better fuel economy, a whole host of other options that make your truck drive the way you like. Or you could go buy HP tuners software right away and you'll be ready for anything you do to it.

After that the Sky's the limit...

I was in an avalanche yesterday that was turboed, running mild boost (8 psi) and he was putting down 411 hp and 538 ft-lbs. with the turbo installed, Methanol injection, upgraded fuel system, HP tuners software, and a fully built trans with a 3000 stall converter, he only was into it about 8G's

He's put down 508hp and nearly 650 ft-lbs with the meth injection hooked up and running 11psi, but he runs out of turbo and fuel at about 4100 rmp Time for bigger injectors and a bigger turbo.

Try the 63series from K&N. They show 17hp increase to the wheels so look into that i have it and felt a small difference in the low range but a big difference in the mid to high range.

The stuff with the CAI is mainly the tube running from the airbox to the engine. The airbox in the truck is already a CAI, although it isn't as good looking as an aftermarket one.
