Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror Issue

I have a 2008 Sierra with the compass/auto dimming rearview mirror. When I press the power button it only turns off the display. If I press and hold the power button the auto dim will eventually turn off. My question is why is it defaulted to turn back on everytime I restart the car. Seems like an odd feature. If you like the auto dimming you will leave it on but if you do not like auto dimming you will probably leave it off all the time. Why would GM make it stay on. I do not do a lot of in and out driving at night but having to turn it off seems really annoying.

 

I figured out how to get my daytime headlights to stay off permenately with out a problem but the auto dimming mirror seems really hard, unless of course I just put a piece of tape over the sensor but then it is unsightly.

I bought the one off the work truck model. It's the old fashioned flip the switch kind. Like it 100x better.

Interesting, I really love this feature. Can see how it could be annoying in some situations.
