Spindle Lift + Daystar Coil Spacer?

Recommended Posts

So I have a Rough Country 3" spindle lift and 2" blocks on my 99 Sierra 1500 2wd 5.3l. I have seen a few of you with spindle lifts add coil spacer for added 2" in the front. Is this safe for the front suspension and does it make your truck ride rough like a dump truck?

Thanks for the info!!!

I haven't used one of these...but from what I know, they are safe. However, the spacers will compress (slightly) and stress the stock coil springs. Only thing is, the spacers are not true 2" lift spacers, you'll only get about 1.5" of lift from what I have seen and heard.

To be honest, it would be better to get lift coil springs like these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-2-5-3-Lif...sspagenameZWDVW

If you want to level it out, yeah, the spacers would be a good idea, but if you want achieve 1" of Cali in the back (maybe less after the coils have settled), then the lift coils would be your best bet.

I planned on lifting my truck, but I decided against it. Cheaper to go down than to go up. There is a bunch more crap you got to worry about (gears, tires, differential, etc...) with lifting than with lowering.

I'd say you'd be safe. The spindle lift just replaces the stock spindles with a longer version. all the factory steering components hook up in stock locations on the new spindles. the spacers will add a little stress to the steering components, but since they're in stock alignment, it should be minimal.

I was actually looking at going this route my self. But I'm only going with 33" tires, so I think the extra 2" would be a waste. I'm just going with the spindles and some Bilstein or Edelbrock shocks.

How do you like the rough country spindles. and how was the install??

The rough country 3" spindle kit is a straight forward kit to install and the truck sits level . So far so good, I have had the lift on for about 2000mi. I dont really like the shocks though. Later I will probobly go with some KYB's or Billstein. I was inquiring on the coil spacers because I like the "pre runner look" and I wanted 285's on new wheels. I couldnt wait to see if the bigger tires would work so yesterday I went and got wheels n tires! 265 70 17 BFG AT on motometal chrome 955's. I had to trim the front plastics so I dont think 285's would fit. Pics soon!

There are a few guys on here with 285's on with no trimming. Must be your backspacing. They put the 285's on stock rims.

I'm not 100% on what tire I want yet either. I did find a 265 that is actually a 31.9" tire, and its under 100 bucks.

I also found the same tire in 285 and its 32.7", for about 50 bucks more...I can live without the extra 0.8"

You know of course....your gonna have to post pics now.

I've done some research on this as well. It depends on the spindle that you have. Seems like I called Rough Country about this and they said no, the upper control arms are not long enough. Now there are extended upper control arms for sale on Ebay that would probably work. You may not need the upper arms but I'd contact Rough Country before you try it.

TravelinSierra, you are wrong about the spacers. I got exactly 2" of lift from the Daystar spacers. I measured before and after. I've had them on for over a year and they haven't compressed and I don't see how they would stress the stock coil spring. They basically rest between the spring and the upper perch.

2" of lift is more than enough to fit 285-75s on the stock 16" wheels. I've got some and they don't rub.

I have the Daystar 2" coil spacers in my truck, and I got a full 2" of lift.

Good to know I am not the only one looking into doing this mod... I plan on running a pair of fabtech 3" spindles and daystar 2" spacers in my 2000 2500 light duty and some blocks in the rear... as for tires I am looking into some 305/70R16 mounted on some helo black maxx wheels... I'll have to post up some pics when it all goes together..
