Nbs Remote Start Distance?

It seems my range for pressing the remote start in my '07 Sierra is reducing down to about 50-75ft. I've had the door lock button work more than twice as far as the remote start, which is bugging me when I leave work, having to not the luxury of being close enough to start my truck from inside the building. My buddy who drives a '07 Ford 150 can start is truck from about 200ft, through concrete walls with ease, which is the only thing I think I could like about his truck.

Is the battery in the FOB going weak already? What do you guys seem to get for your remote start range?

I am afraid my range is about the same as yours. It's well under 100'. Since it's a 2 button process to start the truck with the remote, I find myself repeating the process a lot if I am close to the end of its range

wow, that kinda sucks. I don't got the factory remote start, but my remote looks seem to work from about 100 to 175 yards. the lock will go further then the sound of the horn on mine... if you want a remote start that's worth a d**n, I recommend the "viper 5900" not only does it have a range of one mile but also comes with a alarm. also the key fob has a lcd screen and chirps or rings if your alarm goes off.. I got mine for 300 installed.. but shop around first, most places will try to get atleast 600 out of u.. iv seen them on ebay for 325 shipped.good luck.todouble,

The remote start on my V-Max isn't that good for far distances and sometimes it turns on and then a second later it turns off. It has only turned off a couple of times, other than that it works good. The Viper alarm I had on my 2003 Suburban was awesome it would turn on the Suburban from far away and on the remote it would tell me if the car was on. I think I'm going to put a Viper alarm on my V-Max later on.

The general consensus on these remote starters is that the range is pretty bad; that's the main reason why I anxiously await the advanced two-way remote start (although at this point, I wouldn't be surprised to see a unicorn before this system shows up). I can attest to the fact that there's plenty of quality aftermarket systems out there; I used to install them way back when. However, this is one of those cases when I think that an OEM part would be a wise choice.

I have had my truck 2 months now and it seems to be under 100ft as well. I dont like the range but i still prefer it over the aftermarket systems

Haven't tried long distance Remote Start, but I have been able to lock and unlock from 350 to 400ft.

I couldn't remember if I locked the truck or not, and locked it from the boat at the launch ramp dock to the truck in the parking lot.

It was out of visual site, but I could hear the truck horn on the double lock command!!

Truck was only only 3 months old at the time.

I take it there is a range difference between locking/unlocking and remote starting?

Here is how to extend your range. The tech who installed remote start for me on a different vehicle showed me the trick - - which works for anything you want to do with your FOB.

Simply hold the plastic FOB to your chin and press the desired button. The FOB will use your body as an antenna. I know is sounds strange, but I have been doing this for years now and it works.

I just got a two way remote start put in mine from www.autostart.ca and it has 3500 ft range. :smash:

It really works that far away too as i have to park over a kilometer away from my work area.

The really big kicker is that it costed the same as it would have costed for the factory autostart to be programmed.

Wow. That trick does work. Yesterday I was able to start my truck from inside the building looking out the window, to which my truck was at least 200ft away. Thanks for that tip.
