I wanted to do something like this poorly drawn rendition.

basically replace the plastic with something made of sheet metal, but not have it go as low to the ground. No lower than where the chrome is on the side of the bumper. Than get it powder coated black to match the top cap.

Anyone done this?? anyone with pics, tips cost estimates. any help is greatly appreciated.

BTW I got this idea after I ripped the plastic off for the third time this year hitting a piece of rebar in a fast food parking lot. My truck is to low d**n it...It's getting raised this spring.

The only opinion I have it...You think the plastic one comes off easily...Slap a metal one on there, and not only will it look like crap in a week, if it comes off at the wrong time it could kill somebody.

It would be bolted on. It wont come off without some persuasion. I don't want it as low as the plastic, just enough to cover the bumper mounting bolts.

I would powdercoat it so as it wouldn't chip up, and make it out of heavy gage metal.

Or if someone has some other suggestions?

If I had an abuse problem when it came to my front valance, what I'd do is this: Take the plastic one off, take it down and have it Rhino-lined (LineX, whatever), then BOLT it on instead of using the regular plastic clips it's held on with normally.

I just like the way the truck looks from the side without the plastic, but I want something to cover the bumper mounts.

I was contemplating cutting the plastic one in half, but it would look like s**t with half pockets and stuff. Its really just a problem that my truck is to low, and I drive it like a truck. Maybe in the spring when I get the spindle lift in It wont matter.

I do agree on those plastic clips though, they suck a lot.

I was also contemplating pulling the bumper, welding in some steel in the cutout area and making a straight bumper. Than bring that to the chroming shop.
