Silverado Mpgs 5.3l

Hi, I know this is a stupid question for we are talking about a 4x4 v8 truck. But, in the last little bit ive notice my truck to be getting rather worse gas mileage then before. I just bought it about 3 months ago, its a 2004 single cab long bed, 4x4 silverado with the 5.3. Im getting close to 20L/100KM. Which im not sure is so normal. The truck only has 74000km on it. Atleast half probably more of my driving is done at a steady 80km/h. The main reason i bring this question up is because my cat converter just had to be replaced, it basically fell apart inside. I asked the tech what could cause this and he told me one thing is if you notice worse gas mileage then normal that can cause it. Any help would be great, im just looking for an opinion before i take it into the dealer, i only have a couple thousand left on my used car warrenty.

Thanks Jon

My 99 got about 14 miles per gallon, and my 07 gets 16 miles per gallon. How that equates to kilometers? Regardless, it doesn't sound too bad, might have the O2 sensors checked, if they are getting lazy they can richen the fuel mmixture.

Could be winter fuel blend.

Its winter. Figure about 4 mpg less. If it doesn't improve in the spring change the O2 sensors, fuel filter, air filter, and clean the MAF screen.

My truck and car both get bad mpg in the winter due to the winter blend.

Usually get about 400 miles on a tank of gas for my Bonneville in the Summer, average about 330-350 in the Winter.

I would chalk it up to the Winter mix.

Here's mine from the other day. I just could not belive it, so I took a picture of it. I don't even have 1000 miles yet. I think it's doing real good. That's better than my Toyota Camry. :flag:

Check this one out...Pic 2

My 4wd couldn't get 20+ if you dropped it out of an airplane. Around 15-16 with most of it highway driving on a NNBS 07 with 5.3.

I guess I'm always driving down hill.......LOL :flag::fume::lol::lol::lol:

Here's how it went. Got gas. Turned the key to on. Pushed the Check mark button on the dash (bottom of the four)to reset the mpg's. Started it up and drove away. I'm on the same tank of gas now.

However it's been as low as 14 mpg's

My 05 Crew Cab has been getting 15.8-15.9 for a week. I've always bought low octane Shell Gas, I just filled with mid grade 89 octane Shell gas (NO IT'S NOT ETAHANOL), Within 5 miles the dash told me the mileage had jumped to 16.1 average. I'm going to buy the 91 octane gas next and see what it does. I never buy Ethanol, if the pump has the word ethanol anywhere on the pump I'll go elsewhere to buy gas.

That's nice........ I once got 99.9 Ave. Mpg. (of course I re-set at the top of Donner summit and never touched the gas for 5 miles.)

Yeah, I could probably reset mine while coasting down a hill, and take a picture once I get to the bottom of it too. :flag:

My 07 is a Gas hog.... With stock tune, the best I could ever get was 16.5 100% highway. I'm now up to 17-17.5 with my HPTuners tune with AFM/DOD disabled on the highway. Go figure. Around town, plan on 13-14 mpg...

If I lived in Texas, I'd probably get 20mpg too, with all that flat land you have there. Here in Michigan, the horizon is always another hill to go over.

You guys crack me up.... :fume::lol::lol:

You caught me..... :flag:

Yea...really though, I'm getting about 15 mpg right now mostly highway on E-85 out here in Texas. That's not bad for E-85, and no that's not down hill for 25 miles.....LOL

Y'all have a great Christmas now......
