#!@$ Busted My D/s Mirror Today

Recommended Posts

Driving through town today and another driver and I collided mirrors. I have an '05 Sierra 2500 HD with the power extend, turn signal. The mirror itself smashed as did the black plastic around it. All the electronics look fine though.

Can I just buy a mirror and the palstic outer shell? Or do I need to buy the whole assembly for like $500. Or are there any aftermarket varieties out there that are direct GM replacements?

Or by slim chance, is there someone here that has one laying around they want to get rid of?

I am guessing I will head to the local body shop and get it replaced and just drop the $250 deductible. Just p!sses me off that this is another Christmas expense.

Thanks in advance for any input or suggestions.

Thanks for the link, Vette.

Actually, that price is $321 for 1. I think that is still the best price I've seen. GMParts Direct I think were close to $500 each. I have a $250 ded on my insurance, so it looks like I will be looking to my local body shop and let them wrestle with it after Christmas. Ho ho ho.....

I was hoping to find one for less than my ded. and just putting it on myself as it doesn't seem like anything major, but as usual I guess I need to do things the "right" way. Oh well, that is why I have insurance, I guess.

Replacing the mirror is super easy. I wouldn't claim it on insurance. Also you can use www.car-part.com to find a salvage part in your local yards.

Thanks for the links, guys.

geereed, those are the wrong mirrors. Mine are the accordian type power extend. I would need 2 of those which would put at more than my original part. But I did check into that.

Haulin', I will try that if any yard are open tomorrow.

Ski-doo, I will def. try that option if I can't find a used one. They might be able to hook me up with the outer shell I need, but with the mirror itself running at $110, I am almost at the $350 for the new one.

For what it's worth with my insurance, I have no accidents or fines for about 10 years and i am thinking it should only total at $600 or so, which means at Erie it doesn't even go against my record. Plus if my deductible is $250, why even hassle with it?
