Center Console Lid

I've noticed that practically every new vehicle that has a center console or center storage armrest, has the lid open from the front.

 

Am I the only one that finds this a worthless design? It seems that it's only design goal is to trap your right arm between the seat back and the console lid.

 

One small reason (along with the dash gauge pods) why i'll try and keep my GMT800 as long as I can.......at least untill I give in to the call of the 6.2L...................

I like the fact that it's big enough that I can put a cordless drill, my DiabloSports Predator, my radar detector, a couple of old cd-changer magazines, and a host of other things in there... I just wish the "bucket" (as I some times call it) had some sort of built-in organization or something... Maybe a tray that sits down in there, to help keep things organized some or something.

My center console doesnt have a Lid. its just a big bucket...

 

some things i like about it some things i dont,

its cool how it fits fast food bags perfectly.

its not cool how Change slides around when u break or gas.

its cool how it holds alot of crap.

its nice to beable to throw ur Phone, Smokes lighter and wallet in there right when u get in the truck, u dont got to open ne thing..

 

umm but over all, i kinda wish i had a cover.

I think they designed to open back so the passenger can also access it, whereas the previous models it was driver access only. I like it the way it is.

Well, when I'm driving, my arm's gonna be on it. So, no one else should be jackin' with it!

Opening in the front works well for me. Except I usually dump my cell in the back because I forgot its on top when I open the lid .

 

Definately agree, some sort of organizer, even aftermarket, would be helpful in there.

I put a small drawer organizer from Bed, Bath & Beyond in my center console. It's an adjustable wood one, and I have it so that it slides open and fills the area perfectly. Very handy!

My '02 Sierra had the top flip back and snap off....lousy set-up with the spring. Had to do a 1/2-a$$ mod to get it to work again. They (GM) sold the whole console as one piece for like $600. What a racket.

LTZ opens from the front. 99% sure 2LT is the same.

 

And who shops at Bed,Bath,&Beyond for truck accessories????? Please tell me your significant other brought it home.

Sorry I should have asked about the GMT800 console opening on the side? Does it or it is like my 40/20/40 setup as well?
