V-4 Shimmy

Has anyone noticed this happening or is this normal? Here is the hopefully short version.

Using the cruise control at ~68 mph and long flat road the truck would go to V-4 mode. No big deal. But I noticed an odd sound the engine was making and the lower dash panel (around your knee, by the steering shaft) was vibrating slightly. The truck seemed to be under a slight load but not enough to make it go to V-8 mode. It did not do this going down a hill or coming to a stop (basically coasting). Only did it when under a slight load but in V-4 mode.

I am not really concerned but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I dont have that technology on my truck but does it sound like something loose? a panel, bolt, or linkage?

I think that would be the first "feature" I'd have disabled if I got a truck with DoD.

Otherwise I would just stop by the dealer and have the service manager or a mechanic go for a ride. See what they think. I prefer to at least report noises, that way if something does break, it's been documented that I at least told them about it.

My truck has a "unique" sound that kind of reverberates when in V4 mode. I am pretty sure this is only an exhaust related issue--- if you even want to call it an issue.

Same here, kind of a flutter.

I would give it a "flutter" type sound  . Not worried about the panel, on the technical side its a natural frequency being excited in the panel. Sorry, my line of work so have that answer.

Anyway, was not sure if the "flutter" is that "drone" that people have talked about. Seemed to be just the right situation for it to occur. Might just wait to see if it happens again.

is there a fuse you can pull to keep it in permanent v8 mode? Or is that all programmed into the PCM?

I have no personal experience in this, but I've read here that some custom tunes can remove it.

I don't want it either, can the dealer remove V4 Mode?

I think that legally they cannot remove it. However, I am sure they can remove the "V8" mode for you. :D

I can't tell when mine goes into V4 mode other than the DIC telling me so.

Do you feel vibrations in the seat?
