Spray-in Bed Liners

Those of us with a sprayed-in bed liner already know they're pretty darned tough, right? Whether it's Line-X, Rhino Liner or others, the base components are pretty similar. But did you know they could stand up to an explosion?

Yesterday, The Discovery Channel aired a sneek peek of a new program called Crash Lab. They used various amounts of explosives on pick-ups and cinderblock walls uncoated and coated with Rhino Liner. Guess what? Those coated with the liner stood up to the explosions. The finale was a small, cinderblock building coated with the stuff, inside and out. A car, loaded with explosives was parked in front of the building, simulating a car bomb attack. When detonated, the structure did not collapse. Anyone inside would have survived, albeit a little hard of hearing.

Not bad for a bed liner, huh?

i think i have seen a show on TV several years ago that did this ... started off with a cinder block that was sprayed ... even from 8 stories or so it didn't get any damage ... then they showed it for blast resistance as well on different objects ...

They're definitely pretty tough. There's been many times where I've thrown something sharp and/or heavy in to my bed only to immediately think, "oh s**t...I probably just messed my lining up!" But lo and behold, there's no damage. Pretty impressive.

I remember seeing the same thing.

It is pretty impressive.

Anyone get a non black color matched bed liner? How close to the color was it?

they can be color matched to most any non metallic or pearl paints .. but they will fade after a while ...

the black 'fades' as well but you can just take some bleche white and scrub it back to new in a bit ...

there are a few companies out there that use the same mixture as line-x ... but have chosen to get theirs straight from the source instead of paying for the franchise name ... so it is possible to find some 'off' brands that are just as good ... just shop around and ask to see their setup and how they prep it ...

if it looks like a caulking gun ... run away ...

I was told to clean my rhino with simple green, the fade is actually oxidation. This is the first spray-in liner for me and so far I am happy, though I have yet to really put it to the test.

What ever you do dont get a brain fart and spray it down with armor- all, I did it and said "man that thing looks brand new now" well that night it rain some and the next day I jumped up in my bed to wipe the truck down and the next thing I knew I was saying yeeeehawwww and almost fell out of the truckbed, but it did look good though.

that is a little safer then what i mentioned ... but either will end up with a new looking liner again once done ...

and for sure less you want the 'no skid' effect ... dont put a vinyl / plastic dressing on it ... i had to step in a bed that the owner had used that eagle one wet tire stuff ... d**n sun would blind you from it .. and forget trying to stand up in the thing ... hell my shoes were sliding on concrete for the next 20 min after i got out of it ...
