Hi Gang,

I'm brand new here and I hope someone can help me out. I tried searching the previous posts before asking a new question but could find anything...dang blasted computers. I have a 1995 GMC Sierra pick-up and it wont go into park. I have to shift it to Neutral to start. All other gears work fine along with the gear indicator lights on the dash. The park light on dash does not light and the truck rolls when in park like its in Neutral. Every so often when I shift it to park it does go into park and I can start it from that position. Most of the time though I have to shift to Neutral to start. Neutral saftey switch???

Any advice would be great!

Thanks R.F.

if it is rolling in park obviously the shifter shaft is not in park, possible cable problem at trans bracket, climb under ,take a peek,,adjustment is fairly involved as I remember if everything looks good,gl

One quick thing though. I know that this is a basic safety item, but when people are in a hurry they sometimes for get the simple things. Be sure that whenever you are under the truck to block the tires. Sometimes things fail and the blocks may fail themselves, but it is an added security and may save your life. For example, there was someone on here that was working under the truck and had it not been for the jack stands they had under the truck, it would have fallen on them.

Sounds like you have bad shift cable. If you can follow the cable and look for a spot where the cable is sticking through the plastic.
