ok guys I need cams for my silverado because i noticed intake exhaust and a tune will not make me stay beside a stock svt lightning so i need the best cams out there in the market for a daily driver car and i dont want people to know that it has cams that means i dont want toomuch sound.

so kindly please if u know which cams do i need to get please post a link for me so that i dont have to kill myself on searching that problem is that i dont understand all i can see is numbers and they dont write for which car this cam is, and probably i prefer comp cams or z06 cams . THANX

sorry for my bad english.

If you don't know what the numbers mean you don't know how the cam will act or if it's a good choice for your set up. You didn't mention what engine you have, or what gears you have, or the size/configuration of your truck.

P.S. you only have one cam. You should really look into what cam shafts are, what they do and how they work before ordering $600+ worth of stuff. If you can't dig into your motor and install it, thats another $500 I'd imagine.

i have a 5.3 silverado nbs ccsb and about the gears i dont know cuz they didnt tell me but i have the LT Z71 so i guess they r 373's and about the cams I asked u guyz because this motor is new for me and i dont really know the numbers for the cams but i need something good for a daily driver. and about installing the cams i can get them installed in a garage here there is a guy that installed cams on more than 20 trucks so i guess i will install mine there. and about the tune i will order edge but im hesitating because u cant put custom tunes in it like the diablo predator and we dont have here a good hp tuner who knows how to tune ur car.

once again thanks for the info.

It's the biggest that crew cab will be able to go before you'll start loosing low end torque and need a higher stalled torque converter. I didn't notice any change in low end power at all, good or bad. You'll also need new valve springs and hardened push rods. For valve springs you can get LS6 springs for very cheap ($50) on the site I put up, or get Comp 918's which around around $200 I want to say. You really don't need 918's, they handle around .600" lift, the LS6's handle .550"~, the cam above has .522" .529" lift. Push rods are 7.4" LS1/LS6's. Make sure they are hardened. For $100 it's very cheap insurance. All the engines gaskets are reusable, I could have reused all of mine, and my truck is older than yours by a few years. I'd pick up 2 extra water pump gaskets, they are dirt cheap. If your installer takes the heads off, you'll need new head gaskets and head bolts, which is around $200 total I believe.

edit: You'll want a re tune afterwards, I'm really wishing I had got one right after. The engine will run fine, but you won't get the full benefits of the cam without a REAL tune. I'd skip the hand held programmers for this. Since your truck is a NNBS I think your tuning options are limited, but there is a thread floating around on mail order tunes for NNBS trucks. I think Nelson performance and Black bear performance sell tunes for the NNBS trucks, but I tihnk you have to mail them your PCM, they tune it and mail it back.

ok what he installed it in was a 6.0.. he had to change the ...

timing cover

timing chain

had to get a piece for the timing chain to work

change the oil pump pickup ...

and more stuff

it was alot of work to mess with and the guys parts bill was over $1000

was a 221 221 ......

Depending on the year and mileage on his truck he wont need to change the timing gear. Mine was fine and tight. I'm not sure why the timing cover would need replaced either. Abood what exact year is your truck and mileage.

Miles couldn't be too high. Kinda weird to have to change that crap. Oil pump pickup? wtf

The timing cover probably had to be changed because it has DOD/AFM, these engines use a cam sensor that is mounted in the timing cover VS your engine that has it mounted at the back of the block. With this cam change, you also loose DOD/AFM, there is no special cam to my knowledge that addresses the DOD/AFM, it swaps you to a standard LSX based cam.

Watch how you give advise on springs, it is not just the lift that has to be considered, the ramp rate also has to be taken into account. If the new cam has fast ramps, you will need more spring! This is why you see alot of guys in the /520-.550 range running dual springs, or 918's. These springs can handle the fast ramp rates, where as the LS6 springs will not.

To the OP,

Sorry, a cam change/tune alone will not let you beat an SVT Lightning. You would have to get a very large cam, which will throw you into needing a stall converter, and it just excalates from there. If you want to beat up on them, go forced induction.

True, but the LS6 springs would do just fine with the cam I recommended, they are inexpensive and are working great so far.. the lobes aren't super aggressive :) Pretty mild yet healthy, should work well with my nitrous kit, but it's also a pretty good daily driver cam. However I'd love to see dyno's on a smaller duration reverse split cam.

How exactly do the timing cover/cam sensor deals work out with these NNBS trucks? There was a guy on another board who put a healthy cam (I think it was around 230~ duration, .580~ lift) in his NNBS reg cab short bed 5.3, didn't really mention too much about it, unless I missed it.

I am really not sure about how they work out, I would assume they work fine if you swap the cover, sensor and timing gear. The computer does not know where the signal comes from, only that its there..

230 duration is a huge cam for an otherwise stock 5.3. I have a custom grind 214/218 .559/.558 on a 111lsa in my 5.3. This is not in my truck, but in my 63 chevy II. I have not had the opportunity to drive it yet, but I expect it to do rather well with the light wieight of my car. I did have to run 918's, as my cam has comp cams most aggresive ramp rates.

I was off on the duration, it's a 224/228 .588"/.576" 112LSA 3000rpm stall combo with a few bolt ons, he's running mid 13's I believe. Your custom grind cam sounds like it should wake the 5.3 up all across the RPM range, plus some extra RPM to rev to on top.. I was going to get the Comp 212 218 High lift version .580~ lift, but at the time I wasn't going to be able to get around to a retune anytime and the trucks my daily driver...for now :).

2007 6.0 2500 suburban with a paxton supercharger.

I'm not a fan of the procharger kits, the paxton will blow it away stock for stock motor and built motor to built motor, comes in earlier as well.
