Moisture In Lights

Purchased first GM product in 30 years!! - a 2007 Yukon Denali from a local dealer. It had been bought at auction in Georgia. 6mths old and 8k miles. Great condition and clean history. Got back from an extended drive in the snow/rain and noted significant condensation in right front headlight and left rear taillight. I can't remember if present before the road trip. Externally the lens covers look fine - no chips/cracks. Is this a common problem? Is the only solution a new light?? Am I wrong to expect warranty coverage??

While powerwashing my Sierra yesterday, I noticed a little condensation in the backup light portion of my right rear taillight as well. Seems to have disappeared now though.

If the seal has failed and there is significant moisture in the lens then it should be covered by the warranty. I've noticed as it has gotten cold out that mine will have a small amount of fogging that goes away after the lights are on for awhile.

 

My '03 had actual leaks in the turn signal lenses that required replacement of the assemblies though.

I bought a new 2007 Sierra SLE1 NBS and noticed moisture on it after 7K miles on it. I've got around 10K and the moisture as not reduced any. Mine is on the driver rear tailight. I'm guessing this should be covered by warranty? Can anybody verify this?

yep bumper to bumper warranty means just that unless it has been modified or dammaged.

My old Trailblazer had a similar problem, water in the rear taillight. Eventually the connections in the light would corrode and quit working. There was a recall on this and GM replaced the light.

 

On your next visit to the dealer I would bring it to their attention.

Yupper get them replaced... when I had my RX8 they replaced my 2 front lights and tails because there was moisture starting...so I would expect GM to pick up the tab for our trucks as well.

A little off topic here.

 

I purchased a used Plymouth Acclaim. Very nice looking and riding car. Upgraded interior. One owner. Clean. I got it from original owner in Arizona.

 

But one of the darn headlights would fog up with moisture. There was a 'fix' for this and I purchased it. That didn't work. So I headed for the salvage yards. Hit most in Tuscon. All I found had similiar problem.

 

Visited a friend in Bullhead City, AZ. After visit, leaving heading east was Kingman, AZ. I found a salvage yard there on old Route 66. I got there 8:00 AM when they opened monday morning.

 

I do read the newspapers. And I recalled that Timothy McVeigh had lived there in Kingman for awhile and it was in Kingman that he tested his 'equipment'. And this was about 1 year after.

 

Anyway, in small talk with the salvage yard owner, I asked if he had ever seen Timothy McVeigh. This guy nearly hit the roof. He started yelling that "I have told you guys everything I know. There is nothing else to tell". Wow. What's this all about?

 

For some reason, he thought I was a G-Man. And that Tim's former home/hideout was 2 miles up the road.

 

Lens. Had one. Same problem. Moisture in lens.
