What Is Normal Transmission Temp? 07/08 Nbs

That is a good question.

It took me over a month to actually find the button that shows the trans temperature.

I've got to read the manual some day.

I am still trying to figure out how to enter numbers (memory) in the voice activated phone. But then again, I would actually need to find people to actually call!

It wasn't that long ago when I would have to crank my grand-dads Model T to get it started. Yes, cars/trucks did not always have starters.

My, has technology changed things!

I have a VMAX 6.0L which has a different tranny than the 5.3L does.

I'm guessing here but I think you'll find the different transmissions will run at different temps.

In the summer (70-80F temps) the tranny temps --

with no trailer ran around 150-160F.

with trailer (9500lbs) ran around 200F. This is the highest I've seen it go!!

By the way I'm running 3.73 gears.

When my 4.8 truck was brand new it was just above/below 200 which seemed high since I drive slow and am usually empty. After 500 miles its usually between 160/180 after its warmed up. I do wonder what it should be. Thanks for bringing this up.

I watch my trans temps all the time. In the summer, I never saw the temp go over 190. Two nights ago I took a 80 mile round trip on the highway and the temp maxed out at 110.

Cruising at 70mph with an air temp of 13F the other day,it never rose above 95. I have the aux cooler though. Normally it runs around 105.

my truck 2007 NBS 4.8 4x4 extended cab, manual say trans temp should run between 160-200 degrees. but one day i was in town cruising around 65 degrees outside and my tranny temp went up to 206, was not towing anything nothing in the bed or anything. so why would it be running that high ? also it has not did that anymore since but it's been kinda cold as of late. but i'm concerned about it this summer when it's 90's outside.

anything over 210 seems high to me...been cold here and im around 90-120....when towing last summer never got to hot...around 180-190 not a big load....i got my TCM from Wait4me and love it...firm shifts...shifts great. He says it will run cooler when towing too...will see in the summer time though

Tim, you likely have no aux cooler and this will cause higher trans temps, especially when towing. A great investment for you would be a good stacked plate style aux trans cooler Where you live and the trailer you are towing would determine the size cooler you need. If you are in a climate with little to no winter, I would suggest a 11 x 11 x 3/4 model. If you are in a colder winter climate where you commonly see winter temps in the teens or single digits, step down to a 9 x 11 x 3/4 or maybe even a 7 x 11 x 3/4.

This is a pretty inexpensive mod and easy to install and it will really help your trans.

Mine seems to stay about 100 hotter than the outside air temp during normal driving and towing the trailer with three sport quads on it. I have the HD tow package with the tranny cooler.

My old Colorado was about the same as far as temps after I installed a tranny cooler on it.

Do you have an external cooler for the transmission? If not, it appears that your transmission is running around the same temp and the engine is. So I'd say the trans temp is then normal, but higher than I'd like to see. 230 is where you start getting into trouble.

I have the tow package on mine, and have yet to see trans temps above 160 unloaded, and 180 towing 3,000 lbs.
