I'm debating with myself about what year to start investigating, so I want to know what GMT-800 truck year you liked the best and why. Please only post valid reasons, not "I like this year 'cuz it is what I have." So with that said, let the posting commence!

I vote for 2001. I had one (Wingnut now has it) and it was a fantastic truck. I had very few real issues with it other than the infamous intake water leak (it was a 4.3)... I still miss Fred.

06 because it is relatively free of trouble (compared to what the earlier GMT-800 had) and it has the power dome look (more aggressive to me instead of just being mad looking)

I like the 99-02 bodystyle the best. I think it's one of the best looking front ends GM's ever put out.

Same here. When they first introduced them, I didn't care for it too much, but after seeing some in person, I ended up liking them enough that I bought my '99.

I've always liked the looks of the Chevrolets over the GMC's too, but I think I like the new GMC's better than the Chevrolets now.

I have to agree Tom. I have only had 2 GMCs in the mix of new trucks I have purchased. The 07 GMC front end is far better looking than the 07 Chevy front end to me. That's why I am driving one instead of my usual Chevrolet.

My favorite is the 2004 Silverado because it is the last year that has disc brakes for the GMT-800 trucks . The 2006 looks cool too, but it has rear drum brakes.

I like the 99-02 Chevy's, love the front end, but if your going to go newer, the GMC is a must for me. I don't like the angry eyes look at all... The stepdown GMC bumper is the better option.

I think that the best looking truck of the GMT-800 series would have to be 2007 I just think those trucks looked bad with offset rims and a little lift. A couple months ago I test drove a 07 NBS Duramax. But if I had my pick and could still find one I would opt to buy the classic. I really like the tail lights for that year too, even though it did start in 2003. I dont even know if the front end changed much since 2003...

For silverado I'd go with an '02 before they changed the headlights/front end. But GMC, gotta go for the last of the 800 series.

Easily fixable

Love my 2000 GMC Sierra. Looks great, been very reliable, 94,000 miles and have only had to do routine maintenance. Not a big fan of the 03 up diagonal headlights on the Silverados.

Pretty partial to my 04, I love it to much, but I wanting to convert it to to the 06 look, i like the HD look

03-07 classic was the best GMT-800. I liked both GMC/Chevy. At first I hated the chevy front end, but now I really like it. The updated electronics are worth getting these trucks over the first generation. An 03-07 classic Sierra with Silverado tail lamps is about the best you can get during this time frame. As always, if have the money go for a NBS 07+ Sierra. Much improved over the 99-07's.
