This Is Really Petty, But.....

Stopped off at the dealer today as I wanted a cigarette lighter. So I give the nice cashier lady $12.60, and walk away all fat dumb and happy. Low and behold, the lighter don't fit...

So back to the parts guy, who rechecks the system and finds a note advising that some nbs trucks have a different sized socket, and the revised socket has to be installed before the lighter will fit and work properly. So, off we go to the nice cashier lady again who gladly took my $16.00. And off I go again, fat dumb and happy.

 

Wow. That's almost like saying I have to replace my calipers at my first brake change because GM decided to revise the pads.

 

I'm a bit aggravated, because I know that it will take some kind of technical engineering marvel to get this thing in, and with my patience, the entire dash unit will be in the driveway.

 

I know, this is petty. My dealer is great, and I'm sure not gonna b**ch at them, or really anybody else for that matter. But c'mon, for the cost of these trucks, this is just nickel and diming. Parts guy said to go rag on the service manager and they would most likely install it at no charge. I'm really not the kind of person to expect or do something like that.

 

I KNOW that there's cigarette lighter hanging on peg at Autozone for about 8 bucks...

Thats just the way it is at the parts depo at the dealer. You go in there for i thing and have to buy like eight other things for the 1st item you went in there for.

I wish of the two accessory outlights that we have, one of them should be switched by the ignition. I have my ham rig connected to one of them and I occasionally forget to turn it off and with both outlets on constant power, it stays on.

 

Same thing with my GPS. I am going to get an aftermarket lighter just to hook up the GPS, the ham rig I will just hard wire into a switched circuit but it woudl be nice if I didn't have to do this.

Cool, how did you do that. Maybe I'll just rewire both of mine. I was going to tap off the switched power on the radio but if you have a better method .....

This cigarette lighter stuff is interesting. I have an LT1 trim '06 truck and the lowest LT trim is the only one that actually came with a factory ashtray and cigarette lighter at no extra charge. If you have the LT2 and LT3 trim on the classic style truck, you must buy your own ash tray and lighter or pay extra for it. Because of bucket seat arrangement, the traditional ashtray with a lighter that I have no longer fits.

 

I do not smoke, but I use the ashtray for coins.
