1-door Long Bed 8100 Manual..

Hey all

 

My cuzin found a 2005 GMC 2500HD 8100L manual trany that has some really Low miles and is under warranty.

 

So before he goes and buys it he asked me to ask some people here what are the downsides of this truck. He goes duning/Towing quads and he is thinking of making it his daily driver instead of his 2006 mustang.

 

So tell me and thank you.

The 8.1L engine is a brute!!! The only downside I can think of is the gas mileage, but I have no complaints, because this truck just plain kicks a$$

Sweet... What if I used HP tuner on it ? will it help the gas mileage alot ? and is it ok if I eliminated 100% of the torque managment will the tranny be able to take it ?

 

I saw few vids of the 8100L on Youtube its a really baddass motor. Cam/Heads and 200 shot of N2O is enough for ass kicking.

Sorry, but I can't answer those questions. I'm one of those guys that leaves the engine stock and just enjoy driving that 8.1/Allison combo the way it was built.

My cuzin is the type that doesnt like keeping things stock.. so what HP tuner or get those custom canned tunes from suppliers (E.G diablo tuner...etc )

 

what about the tranny does it handle the torque with that little after market extra power ?

You can tune it all you want... make some more power. I would imagine the manual trans would handle the torque if you aren't a clutch dropper.

 

It will never get anything resembling fuel economy.

regret buying it !

Make it a daily driver instead of a Mustang? Not very logical. 9 MG does not sound very good, especially with gas prices forcast to hit $ 3.50/gallon of 87 octane this spring.
