Used 07.5 Lmm Diesel 2500

I'm close to finalizing a deal on a used LMM.

I have a few questions about the results of the professional inspection.

First, a little bit of info about the truck:

Sold in March 07

15000KM or approx 9000 miles.

I'm purchasing this truck from long distance, sight unseen except for this inspection, and my brother who's gone over it pretty well...but he's no mechanic.

The inspector made a note that the front tires are showing signs of slight edge wear because they appear slightly out of alignment. The bottom of the two front tires are sucked in a bit and the top of the tires are sticking out a bit. Don't know exactly how much, but he did say "slight".

My Number 1 concern about this purchase is that the truck has ever had an accident, especially frame damage.

Do you think this tire alignment could be normal, or should I be suspicious of a frame repair?

The inspection report does not indicate any other issues that might raise flags of a repair.

The only other item I was curious about is in regard to the rear tire wear. The fronts are at 75% and the rears are at 35% remaining. Is this normal, or do you think the owner was drag racing this baby

All other systems report good:

Electrical

Body

Emmissions

Drive Train

Interior

Road Test

Brakes

Cooling

Fuel

It looks like a good deal. The tire were probably never rotated. Tell them add 4 tires and an alignment at the same price and its a deal....or cut off some of the price because of the tires and alignment problem and its a deal....

The front tire wear is pretty much normal, I had a guy tell me at a alignment shop that new vehicles should be aligned about the first 5000 miles due to suspension settleing which make sence. Diesels go through tires pretty fast due to there power and weight and worse with original tires, well all know those dont last long. If your worryed and it being wreaked tell them you want a carfax on it.

The other thing to consider is that there is a pretty decent chance the previous owner turned the torsion bars to adjust the frontend height. If this happened, and he did not have the front aligned after adjusting the bars, it could explain the uneven wear.

Hmmmm.................My 07 gmt-900 2500 4x4 x-cab is 11 months old w/ 7000

miles and my tires are like brand new with no visible wear !

Not to mention I also have a snowplow and tow and never had the front

end alignment touched or had the tires rotated!

How much do they want for this truck?

Proceed with caution with a vehicle YOU can't see, touch, feel, drive

before you commit to buy!

A guy I work with bought a used F-250 4x4 with real low mileage...a 2006 I think.

Anyway, he had lots of mechanical troubles, and found out later that the truck was used for plowing snow....that pretty much answered all teh questions as to why a low mileage truck needed lots of fixing...

It a deal sounds too good to be true, it just might be!!!!!

I would worry about it. My current truck has about 7000+miles and the tires look new. I would really look hard at the rear brake pads because with that much wear on the rear tires to me it says alot of Brake Stands, and general hammering of the truck. I would also look hard at the engine bay and see if you can detect any engine mods being put back to "stock". Just my two cents! Hope it works out

Thanks everyone!

We decided to pass on the deal. There were too many indicators that the truck was worked or played with just a little too hard for my liking.

The price was fair, not necessarily a steal. $43K CND$. These trucks go for between 41-49K with low milage, depending on options.

Thanks again. This is a great community and trememdous asseset for first time buyers!
