Heated Windshield

So today in the morning everything was frozen outside so I turned the heated windshield on. It only came out of one wiper not the other one. Is it supposed to do this?

Mine was frozen the first time I tried to use it. Both sides. Once it warmed up and I pushed some fluid through, it started working normally after that. I've also had cheap blue fluid freeze on me before.

Yes mine did that the first time too...the crap fluid from the dealer. At -15 it froze in the lines. Put it in the garage and warmed it up, they worked fine, kept topping up the reservoir with good stuff and dilluting the bad stuff. Just a theory I suppose, I kept thinking the hot fluid should have thawed any ice in the lines. They have worked great since.

If parked in the cold, how long does it take to get hot fluid? Where is the fluid heated? In the reservoir or somewhere plumbed closer to the windshield? Then pushed through how many feet of hose to reach the sprayers? Does this system actually work?

Noticing the wiper system on the NBS doesn't handle snow & ice as efficiently as my '97. Wipers tend to skate overtop of snow rather than clearing it. My passenger washer stopped working the other morning. Not sure if it froze while on the expressway or simply became blocked by ice build-up. Snow tends to pack along the cowl & freeze, think the build-up is blocking the RH washer. Already had to stop & clean out along the base of the windshield a couple of times.

on the h2's theres a rectangular black box near the resovoir that heats the fluid as it passes thru...but the tank is in a diff place on the hummers. dosent take long

Man... you guys are making me LOVE South Texas even more. How do you stand living in the cold?

Hell, here if the ice freezes in the refrigerator, we stay home!

It sucks living in the cold. They throw salt on the roads every single god d**n day. My truck is starting to get rust spots on the body :/

I have got about 200 miles on mine, so I havent had a chance to really look deep at how all this crap works. I too have noticed the wipers struggle with ice and snow more than my many previous GMC/Chevy trucks, however the heated fluid option (other than the first day I mentioned) has worked great at removing the build up on the first cycle, i turn it off after the first cycle of heated fluid.

punmax, whre in BC do you live? I think I remember you saying the Vancouver area. What is "cold" for you? Move about 12 hours northwest to where I am, and then we can talk about snow and cold!:dunno::thumbs:

( I didnt need that puke one, but it looks so funny!)

Oh and your truck should not be rusting yet at all. There is a ton of salt on the roads here too, and no rust spots on mine at all. Same with my last new vehicle which was 3 years old when I sold it.

On the side, one of the molding has rust spots on it. Also I live in Abbotsford, which is about 1-2 hours away from Vancouver. I tried the heated windshield washer today and the other side started working. Think the fluid froze.

-22c this morning in Ottawa....sure could have used that 'heated' option. ;)
