Normal Amp Draw On 2003 Yukon?

Hi guys-

 

I have a 2003 Yukon Denali that has a random dead battery. What happens is every other day or so the battery is completely drained after being parted over night. Not even click click click when trying to start. It's a daily driver and nothing is plugged in or left on. The battery is less than a year old and was load tested last night by the battery shop. No problems there. I put my fluke meter between the negative side post and the negative cable to get an amp draw. It started out at 3.28 amps. The after pulling some fuses it climbed to 6.80 amps. After pulling more fuses, it dropped back down to 3.28. I don't know for sure, but shouldn't the amp draw be in the milliamps instead of amps when nothing is on and the key not in the ignition? I haven't pulled all fuses yet, but are there any recommendations on where to look for the huge draw? Thanks in advance.

You're on the right track, just keep chasing. Underhood lamps that stay on with hood closed are one that can catch folks... It is on as it supposed to when the hood is open, then when you close the hood, you can't see it. My '92 has a trouble light that gets left on sometimes... the newer rigs don't have underhood lights, don't know about yours..

Thanks for the quick reply...Mine does not have the underhood light, but I will look for other lights that might be left on.

Also make sure you let all modules power down before touching anything. If you disconnect the battery install meter and check reading it will be way high. Don't start actually checking anything for at least 20 min but I have seen some modules take up to an hour and a half. If your checking right away you could be chasing normal stuff.

To your original question yes a good draw guideline (depending on battery and vehicle options) is 30 milliamps.

Your welcome. The only problem is most meters will time out and shut off in less than 30 min.
