Wondering if you have a solution, the display on the rear view mirror goes blank and the green light at the bottom right of the mirror flashes off. In a split second the light comes back on and the entire display window lights up. It acts like there is a momentary power failure. I see by a thread in the discussion side of this website there has beed discussion since 2004 but no answers. The GM dealer here has the same problem on the service manager's truck and he can not figure it out. The only good thing is they are trying to figure it out on his truck and not tieing up my truck. truck is an 01, LT Z71. Any help would be appreiciated.

I have a 2005 GMC Sierra Crew Cab Z71 if it makes any difference.

Here is the discussion that started in 2004 and has been on several trucks and suv models but I see no answers. Are there any fixes??????

Please help...........

Thank you in advance.

If this does not play, go to youtube.com and search for 'mirror resetting'

My '06 Sierra does the exact same thing :) . One theory I have is that it is do this to warn us that we are driving too fast. The reasoning behind this is as follows:

I was driving down the highway at 60 mph into snow/ice and the mirror went into ice mode. The mirror kept powering down and flashing just like in the video. Finally the road conditions made me slow down and damned if the mirror quit flashing.

Does anyone know if it is suppose to be doing this to warn us? :(

I have a little sidebar question here -- I am a new (5 days) Silverado owner with the abovementioned mirror (it is working properly) but I am curious: exactly what is the ice warning about? Ice on the road surface or what? ...and exactly how is that fact determined and by what/where sensing device?

I don't know if it's intentional but it's interesting that you mention that it happened in ice mode. I'm having the same problem on my 04 suburban and it started happening while it was giving the ice warning. I'm hoping for some pointers on this as well.

PES, The Ice warning comes up on the mirror when the temperature is cold enough for ice to form. I have seen the "ice" warning come up and togggle between "ice" and temperature for a minute or two after start up, then it stays on temp. If the temp drops or by some magic (I am not sure how it can tell that the road is getting icy when the temp stays the same) the "ice" tag will start flashing. As I mentioned above, when I slowed down, it stopped the flashing and turning on and off. :(
