Under-hood Noise

I have a 2007 Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab with the 6.0L & 4WD. It now has about 1000 miles. Since just about day one, I've noticed a "squeal" coming from the front of the truck (very noticeable inside and out) when it's in gear and my foot is on the brake. The engine RPMs are in the 500-600 range. The noise goes away if I put it in N or P or start driving. The dealer on the last two returns has said this noise is "normal". I test drove another 2500HD/6.0 and didn't hear anything as loud. I plan to bring it to an independent mechanic I trust & see what he says. Meanwhile, any thoughts on this?

Thank you. We're planning a cross-country RV trip and don't want any problems on the road (at least any we could have prevented at home).

I have the same noise in my 2008 4x4 crew cab with the 6.0L... it is at the dealer now getting some other work done, so I asked about it. The guy who looked at it said he hadnt heard that particular noise before, but thought it sounded normal, and he added it to the lst of things to check while it is there.

The noise sounds similar to a noise I had in my previous truck when I had a vacuum line break... but I know some vehicles do make a similar noise when everything is running fine. I guess I'll see what they say about it when I pick the truck up.

Thanks. I'd like to know what your dealer says. I should add that I have the integrated brake controller, too. Plugged in the trailer the other night to make sure the connector was wired ok. Everything lights up and the controller comes on fine, but the noise is slightly louder, though it could be my imagination. Today I'm taking it to an independent mechanic who worked on our other cars and really knows his stuff. I'll let you know if I learn anything useful.

I talked to the foreman in the service dept at the dealer toda when Ipicked up my truck. he said that noise is normal for these trucks, coming mostly from the tranny, and he also said partly from the alternator(I doubt that) he said the transmissions in the HD/s are quite a bit louder than some of the others, and there is a different pump in them with some extra vanes that makes them a bit louder too. I dont know how true that all is, but it does sound like it could be the case.
