Trailer Wiring Issues

I have an 02 silverado...I was looking to hook up the 4way flat connector...the truck came with one on it (aftermarket)when I bought it used.

hooked it up to several different trailers and get... no parking lights...right brake light comes on solid and doesn't flash or anything...left signal will work and brake flashes dim.

I clipped the connections and ran the brown wire to the parking light bulb wire, green and yellow to the left and right respectively..and verified having a good ground....and when you turn on directionals both lights flashed ...and still had no parking lights at the plug ??

does anybody have a specific wiring source from where I should be pulling my power?

I will get a new 4 way harness for starters...just looking for some specifics as to what to tap power from for each wire.

thanks,Matt

First off check all your fuses in the under hood fuse box. Look for TRL PRK 15A / LR PRK 10A / RR PRK 10A...

You should not be spliceing into the tail light wire harness. that truck should have its own harness for the trailer lights.

I'll check the fuses as mentioned....I went to the local GM dealer and the only factory harnes he had was for an rv 7pin connection...the truck is already wired for a trailer brake (by me) and at $120+ for the factory harness it seems a little steep especially when I dont really need all but 3 wires .

Maybe I'm looking at it backwards I suppose....its always a fail safe option to just get the factory plug and play harness and just get a 7 pin to 4 way flat adapter.

thanks for the help...any other suggestions?

I would think your truck should have a 7 way plug connector as standard located under the bumper. If so the easiest solution is to just purchase a 7 way to 4 way plug convertor.

JoJoJim Good luck
