Gmc Sierra Grannies (vsc)

I was hoping some of you might know about what kind of Grannies the GMC trucks have. Toyota has the Brake LSD and TRAC and VSC. It seems like you can't use the truck like a truck with all this garbage on it. If you speed up to merge into traffic from a dead stop the Brake LSD slows you down. I'm pretty sure you can disable the VSC and Trac but the brake LSD can't be messed with.

I'm not getting why a truck needs all this crap. I thought there was a VSC of some kind available on the GMC Crew Cabs that was standard or possibly an option. All this crap on the Tundra's has me leaning towards a Sierra but I still need a 6.5' bed on the CC anf GMC doesn't offer it.

I like the rear locker on the GMC trucks. It seems much better than the Tundra's system.

What do the GMC trucks have on them and can it be disabled by a button or is it a permanent granny. How does the VSC work on the GM trucks?

GM calls it Stabilitrak, and it is standard on Crewcabs and optional on ext cabs. But it WILL BE STD ON ALL VEHICLES by 2010 (I think, maybe 2012?). GMs do not have any brake assist though. GM's also have traction control with the Stabilitrak system, but they operate seperately. There is one switch that allows you to turn them off. Push it once turns off Trac control, hold it in for 5 secs and it turns off Stabilitrak. But it always resets to on whenever you shut off the truck and restart it. I can see where you would not want Stabilitrak or Traction Control while off-roading or "playing" in the snow. But for everyday driving in traffic it is an AWESOME feature. Especially while in 2wd on slippery roads.

Oh, and the Tundra does not offer a 6.5' bed in a crewcab either.

Thanks for the info. I know the Tundra doesn't offer the 6.5' bed on their Crew Max either. That's another reason I'm waiting for the late model 09's or 010's because I want a CC with the longer bed and maybe a diesel too.

I don't get it. Trucks are turning into 1/2 ton suv's with a little box on the back.

I like the rear locker better than the brake LSD on the Tundra's. VMAX are you saying that by holding in the button for 5 seconds it olny removes the Stabilitrack but the Trac Control will still be operational? Can both be turned off?

Learn something new everyday. All NBS crew cabs have stabilitrak? I knew it had traction control, due to the button on the dash but did not realize it had Stabilitrak. Thought that was a Denali/VMax only thing.

Nope, not a Denali/Vmax thing. It is std on ALL NBS Crewcabs. Go try it (assuming you have a Crewcab). Start it up and push it once and you will see "Traction Control Off" light up on the dash. Then push it again and hold it in for 5 secs and you will see the "Stabilitrak Off" light up on the dash.

I'd check the leaf springs.

that is what I figured, just pisses me off, 324 miles...I will thaw it out in the shop today, check the torque on the u-bolts and investigate if Chevy is using any isolators between the ends of the leafs as they have in my previous half tons. Havent had a half ton in awhile

By the way, I just checked and you're absolutely right. Funny, had no idea my truck had Stabilitrak.

Then obviously you don't need it, living in Texas. Drive on snow/ice even one time and you won't need an internet forum or a manual to tell you you have it. It's incredible.
