Fuel Pressure Check 99 Silverado

I have ZERO pressure at test port on '99 Silverado 1500 4WD 5.3. Question is..... how to shut off return fuel line. I have no clue where I can pinch off or install shut off to determine if fuel regulator is bad. I'm pretty sure my problem is pump or regulator. Also.... If I remove the regulator, shouldn't I get gas dripping or shooting out when I try to start?

Yes gas should shoot out. It did on mine when I forgot to install the gasket on the regulator.

So my assumption would be fuel pump, no gas comes out.

You should be able to hear the pump kick in when the key is turned on, if not it's probably toast.

I've never seen fuel go past a blown regulator so fast that you get 0 for a fuel pressure reading. I'd be hunting a supply issue.

Silly question. . .

You are testing it on the passenger side with the steel line and not the driver side with the plastic evap line right?

I Do believe there is a tsb on the fuel pump module connector, was it replaced when pump was replaced and did you use an oem pump or aftermarket? lOOK at connector where fuel pump connects to vehicle harness. Just some quick thoughts you might want to consider.Keep us posted

Ok. Just checking. I have been known to do things like that.

The first time I went to remove pressure from my fuel system I tried the drivers side and wondered why nothing came out. . . .

I was thinking are you kidding me when I remembered about a hundred years ago on my first oil change I spent about 20 min chasing my a** wondering why the brake bleeders wouldn't take grease like the rest of the grease thingeys.

It was definately a fair question........ I remember when I put a new battery in and didn't pull the black protective cap off the neg post. I cussed out the Auto Zone folks for selling me a dead battery.

Put a new pump in yesterday, finally 40 degrees. ALL GOOD! I stuck with the drop the tank method vs. pull the bed. It took me alone about 3 hours and with 20 gallons still in the tank.
