What Gears Do I Have?

I always here people talking about their gear ratio. I have to admit i have no idea what this means . How do i figure out what kind of gears i have on my truck? Thanks for the novice help.

With your 5.3 Z71, Im sure you have 3:73's. at least factory you do.

I took a look at it while going down the interstate today and was getting a little under 2000 rpm at 70 mph. Somewhere around 1800-2000. This is with 285's not the stock 265's.

3.73s for sure.....due to the larger tire your final ratio is around 3.55 or so.

I see, I see. Is this suffice for my 285's or do i need to upgrade? It still gets up and goes off the start pretty good. Thanks for your help.
