Limited Slip Not Working..

It appears that the limited slip is acting completly open. The ring an pinion seem fine, but not sending power to both wheels. I know it wont lock like the newer G80, but it acts like its just an open rear end.

 

Any ideas, blown clutch or i need just a fuid change?

This axle needs a little wheel spin to lock up, but will unlock again at about 20mph. Mark.

This is the old Posi traction / limited slip type, not the new auto locker.

This is not the truck in your profile? I thought all 99 and after had the G80. Mark.

The 99 Suburbans were the old body style like the 96-98 trucks. It was still called the G80, but was a limited slip till the nbs silverado, Those G80s are the lockers.

 

it just does not seem to be working. I have had limited slips in the past and those seemed to work much better than this one.

Ok then, I can't tell you anything more than take it apart, or have someone, and see what you find. Mark.

The G80 in my truck is of the locking version, so I am sure that yours is as well. They work the same way as the new ones. You need to take it easy on the throttle until the two wheels reach a difference in RPMs, then it will lock. It will unlock again at 20-25 mph.

 

This is true unless...

 

1) The Suburbans had a different G80 (not likely).

 

2) It is broken or worn out.
