Annoying Whistle

Cool? its like having a cricket in your head. I've just recently noticed it in my sierra and it does it in the Denali since day one and the dealer said it needs to get worse before they can track it. Theres a member on here who said he took his belt off and found that it was the alternator though.

That whistling are you talking about? The whining noise at low RPM coming from the engine? I believe the source of that is the power steering pump, not the alternator. Removing the serpentine belt will not isolate the alternator by itself, as it drives other accessories. It is definitely not the alternator in my truck.

Yes and it's very annoying. After doing a lot of searching on the net, it looks like it is a power steering problem and GM is aware. I guess they aren't getting many complaints.

2007 GMC sierra NBS.

My 2007 Sierra Crew Cab 4x4 just developed a high pitched whistle/whine. It only occurs when the truck is cold ( below -20 C/-5 F ) and under load, as soon as I back off the throttle it goes away. If I have the cruise on it tends to cycle in and out as the load changes.

Is this similar to the noise you guys are getting? or am I on my own here.

Glad for any input my dealer has not heard of any issues.

Thanks

Not sure but i think that might have been me. anyways i had the same sound so i took off the belt and checked the pulleys. Pulleys were fine. Next i ran it for like 5mins without the belts, and no noise, ok so at this point i didn't know wat to do? So i put the belt back on and, shazaam, noise never came back, and havent heard it since. :rollin:

I have the same problem. When its -20 c outside. Every time I bring it to get it checked at the dealership the problem doesn't happen.

The sales Manager has the same problem on his truck. He told me that the techs can pin point the problem. This only happens in the winter. I never heard the noise in the summer. This is my second winter with my NNBS CREW 4x4
