My computer hiccuped when I was writing this. My '01 had it's first bulb burn out today. I noticed one of the license plate lamps out. Not bad, 1 bulb in 7 years. Glad they don't make them like they did in the good 'ol days! :D

I cant keep the daytime running lights bulbs more than a month before one is burnt out............I wish I could find a replacement bulb that was better.

LED are superior to any other standard bulb. They are brighter and can stay on for 100,000 hours + Although they do cost alot more.

There is a TSB out on the DRL bulbs but you should be able to buy them from an autoparts store the change is from 12V to 14V bulbs.

Works for me.

Yes, but why spend $100+ redoing your entire truck with LEDs when the factory bulbs are lasting as long as they are?

For DRL, use the LL version or the NALL if you want amber. I think they were 4157NALL. LL is longer life. I'd agree it seems the drl's have a problem. I am always seeing chevy's with one drl out. The driver's side was the only side on my Tahoe that ever blew.

led bulbs are the way to go if you keep burning regular bulbs out.

im thinking of buying some LED Brake lights and parking lights

since i read somewhere that a regular bulb uses 7 watts idle 27 under load (like blinker)

and LEDS use 1 so

7wx4 - Parking lights = 28watt

7wx2 - Brake Running Light - 14watt

so i could save about 36 watts by switching and then i maybe wouldnt have to buy a new bigger alternator to run my SWEET lights lol.

yes, this is very useless for about 99.9999% of you :rollin:

I should have mentioned I pulled the fuse on my DRL's. Just don't like them. When I went to pull my burnt plate bulb, turned out it was ok, just got loose in the socket. It lit up when I went to take it out. Back to 7 years and no burnt bulbs!

Zero - none - of the exterior lights or light bulbs have burned out/quit in my 1990 Chevrolet 1500.

The truck has the optional Light Package which placed a couple more lights on inside floor area. Those two bulbs have burned out and have been replaced.

The two lights under the hood still operate. The regular light on hood (not available on 2008 models) and the light that has a pull cord on it - a work light, I guess - they both still operate.

I suppose it depends on how much night driving one does.

And on the new ones, the headlights on all the time (mostly) so who knows how long these will last!

So you replaced your DRL with 14V bulbs?.......cant get my head around a 14V bulb working in a 12V system......in any case.....what was the bulb number you used?

Thanks..... :sigh:

On my 99, had the DRLs go out at around 75,000 miles, replaced them with Sylvania LL's and hever had one fail up to when I sold it 50,000 miles later. Your next bulbs to go out will be the ones in the radio and climate control center which you will really hate trying to replace because they were not made to be replaced :sigh:
